Scratch my name on your arm
With a fountain-pen
This means you really love me

A tough kid who sometimes swallows nails
Raised on Prisoner's Aid
He killed a policeman when he was 13
And somehow that really impressed me

*talks to himself*

Yes yes I am listening to Meat is Murder.

Isn't this a lovely picture of our Mozza? We need a "Lovely pics of Moz" thread ..

I've seen this happen
In other peope's lives
And now it's happening in mine

Y'see, this is why I've named it their essential record. It's the locus of everything there is to love about that band and not an arse daffodil in sight.

For so long I thought this was a very good album but it was always in the shadow of the other big ones.. I've grown to see it in such a different light now. And I've really gone off Strangeways for some reason.

:(

Gasping, dying, but somehow still alive
This is the final stand of all I am

And that bit where it starts to rain.. *sobs*

"Strangeways..." is the sound of Johnny Marr reaching for something and having to drag the others along a bit. Morrissey doesn't rise to the challenge on a few numbers and Marr claims he met a bit of resistance from Rourke and Joyce over "I Started Something..." There's some very fine music but it doesn't hang together so well as an album for me.

I actually prefer both "The Smiths" and "The Queen Is Dead" to "Meat Is Murder", but I feel a re-evaluation is imminent. Though I still maintain that the ultimate version of "What She Said" is the live one from "Rank", with the "da da da" in the end.

Oh, and "Meat Is Murder" (the song) is awful.

It may all end tomorrow
Or it could go on forever
In which case I'm DOOMED

And you wonder
Why in ESTHONIA they say
"Hey you, BIG FAT PIG
You FAT PIG
You FAT PIG"

Obviously inspired by a chance encounter our Moz had with a certain Andreas Kokokopop at an A-list Circuit Party in LA.
