FAB song and the Hex remix is ace
FABULOUS.
I remember being GUTTED when it only got to 50-something in the UK.
As I recall, the box never playlisted it, but it got decent Radio2 support and MTV hits LOVED it...

I assume she's given up trying to crack the UK then.
Scaled the heady heights of #63 in October 2000. Reached #32 on the US charts though.
Very big in France, or at least she was a few years ago. Dunno how she's doing nowadays.
I'd forgotten HOW fabby this is!
I will LOOOOOOOOVE again!

they wanted to launch her outside france/belgium/canada when celine dion was having babies (or taking a break, whatever). the project flopped almost everywhere and she's now singing in french again and being very succesful at it too.
"adagio" is even better than "i will love again".

her self titled english album. there's an english and an italian version.
"i am what i am" was the third single in belgium. i even prefer that one to "i will love again".

Poor Lara, she always seemed to be in Celine Dion's shadow. She even came 4th in the ESC that Celine won!
Their debut English album covers also share an uncanny similarity.

I either never knew that, or I'd completely forgotten it!
I'm assuming Lara competed for France, then. What was her song called?

She competed for Luxembourg, the song was called 'Croire'.

I have to correct you there because her first English album was a success almost in every country where it got released except for the UK and the US!
It even went gold in Canada,Germany,Norway and Finland, platinum in Belgium,Switzerland,France and Brazil and even triple platinum in Portugal...
Sorry for bumping,I only just remembered how good this song was! :smoke:

I love that song it was fantastic especially the original mix.
She started work on a 2nd album with Gary Barlow etc & Sony were making her a priority for 2002 but nothing happened...

not saying it's not true, but i remember reading an interview about her in a french magazine and she claimed she started singing in french again cause the english career didn't really take off. the album sold less than most of her french albums (and those albums were released in less countries than the english one) so i don't think she made the record company a huge amount of profits ;)
but then again, if she went platinum she did rather well afterall :smoke:

Does platinum in most of those markets mean much though? I suppose it all adds up, but still...
Anyway, fantastic song...

Presumably the whole point of releasing in English was to break the US and the UK markets. If she couldn't do that, and had bigger success with her French stuff in other countries, perhaps they just thought 'why bother?'

It's all relative, I guess. Enough European acts have successful careers without troubling the UK or US charts.

Well yeah, although I always thought to make a great deal of profit they had to sell extremely well in tons of European places if they don't crack the big markets, but then having just looked again, France IS a fairly big market isn't it...

Plus I'd imagine French artists would sell in Switzerland, Belgium and Canada, perhaps. On top of that other European countries aren't as downright RETARDED as the UK for having foreign language break the charts.
