Fave Tracks: Whats the Frequency Kenneth? / Tongue / Crush With Eyeliner

Some people love this album..some people hate it, thinking after Automatic For The People, they would follow up with something similar, instead they decided to do a fuck off loud rock album...From the noisy opener of "Kenneth" with its backwards guitars and nonsensical lyrics (Stipe always says dont interpret his lyrics cos they dont mean anything, and hes right..."Butterfly tecal rear view mirror dogging the scene...you wore a shirt of violent green"), to the glam fabulousness of "Crush With Eyeliner" to the gorgeous falsetto and piano of "Tongue" to the Similar but not quite to Everybody Hurts "Strange Currencies" this is an album i listen to constantly still, not my fave REM album of them all, but way up there, Monster is a classic...so there

Fave songs: Mr Man / Black Money / Victims

Possibly should be higher, but its not, but this album is one of the oldest in my collection, an album i can still listen to all the way through, an album that evokes memories both happy and sad for me...Culture Club were at their peak, before George started on the old heroin, and quite simply had conquered the world. Of course the most well known single is "Karma Chameleon", and while good, its never been a fave of mine..."Church of the Poison Mind" with its infectious beat and catchy chorus is a great song..My all time fave song on this album is "Mr Man", with a reggae lite beat, is just fabulous...my nan convinced me that she'd gone to the phonebox on the estate, phoned Boy George up and told him to write a song for her grandson who she called "Mr Man"...of course i believed her, and thats part of the reason i love this song so much (Come on, i was only 6)..Other gems like "Its a Mircale" (originally titled "Its America" hence the lyrical references to Hollywood stars), "Miss Me Blind"with its guitars and catchy chorus, the sheer loveliness of "Black Money" ..'..When you love someone, and they dont love you in return.you got money to burn' and the haunting ballad "Victims" with its beautifully arranged strings, lovely vocals and excellent backing vocals of fat dyke Helen Terry..in fact, she is criminally underrated in the hitsory of Culture Club, but she was an integral part of their songs, in particularly this album, and her voice complimented George's wonderfully.....Culture Club will always be one of my favourite groups ever, and although George is a bit of a cunt these days, you cant deny at their peak they were great..

Fave tracks: Tonight Tonight/ 1979 / Zero

Always liked the Pumpkins, even though Billy Corgan comes across as an arrogant twat, and if Sharon Osbourne thinks that too, its the LAW...Quite simply a great album, 2 discs, and home of 2 of my fave songs ever "Tonight Tonight" and "1979"..Corgans vocals may seem somewhat whiney, but set against the excellent music, i cant moan that much..When you're 16/17 and you feel like shit a lot of the time, this was an album i could relate too, one i would blast on my stereo loudly and just lie back and listen to it..28 Songs in all, and most of them winners...Other standout songs are "Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans" and "Take Me Down", the latter which is full of emotion..Im not going to witter on too much cos there are so many songs..closing with the lovely "Farewell and Goodnight", a gem of a song, this album is one that i can stil listen to and think back to when i was YOUNG :moopy:

Fave Tracks: Trash/Beautiful Ones/Filmstar

So Bernard Butler had gone...and their third album was more commercial, but hey, im a commercial music loving WHORE so its all good...As you can see my fave songs are three of the singles, but thats not to say that the rest ofthe album isnt as good...Its another album with memories, in this case moving away from home and going to uni, and sore of disocvering myself really...this album was definitely one of the soundtracks of that era, (along with "Spice" but that just missed this list )The opening guitars of "Beautiful Ones" still get me and the drums kick in and thats it, as McDonalds have you believe, Im Lovin it..Its an album i MUSt put in the car if im going for a long drive, and i can rock along while driving (badly) and even have a flat tyre doing 80mph on the M25 and not notioce cos i was so wrapped up in listening to it..Other goodies include "Picnic By The Motorway" and "She" with its lovely orchestral vibe...all in all, catchy songs, great hooks and great songs, what more can you ask for...Shame they are no more

Fave Tracks: Live To Tell / Open your Heart / Wheres the Party

So the Material Girl got herself married to a future Oscar winner and photographer beater, was in love, waited for all the young girls in the world to spend their moeny dressing like her (ie a tart) then she goes and cuts her hair, changes her image and comes out with this gem of an album....Most of the songs here are winners, from the beautiful "Live To Tell" with its haunting lyrics and stunning part when it stops, goes quite and comes back with "..if i ran away".."Papa Dont Preach" (could you imagine ANYONE these days coming out with a song about teenage pregnancy..ok she didnt write it, but a gutsy move" with its lovely string arrangements, the superb "Open Your Heart", the summer lovelines of "La isla Bonita" and one of my faves (dont manson me Madonna fans) "White Heat"....i dont know why really, but ive always loved it...The title track is a bouncy fluffy pop song, not one of my faves but still a good choon..Five Smash Hit Singles (3 Number ones in the US, 3 in the UK) and four other great tracks, including the superb "Wheres the Party", the not so good "Jimmy Jimmy", and the bouncy poppyness of "Love Makes the World Go ROund"..this album showed Madonna could grow as an artist, the start of her "reinventing herself", a time when she was happy and in love, and we know that just 2 short years later, the marriage to "the coolest guy in the universe" was over, and would lead to another album which may appear later...

Fave tracks: Paranoid Android / Karma Police / No Suprises

Now i sort of liked Radiohead, but never owned one of their albums, until i got this one, then i was hooked...Paranoid Android is just one of my faves, and the video was fabulous, cant remember the character offhand, im sure the cartoon was on Paramount years ago..anyways, so yeah, OK COmputer, for me another album at another good point in my life,..."Phew for a minute there i lost myself....." Karma Police, another one of my fave singles....a lot of people (ahem) will go for The BEnds, and that just missed out on this list, and to be perfectly honest, in my pop trash opinion, ive liked their recent stuff less, but as an album, every song is a cracker for me..starting with "Airbag" and ending with the lovely "The Tourist", everything in between gets a thumbs up from me..i dont agree that its the best album ever made as Q magazine readers would have you believe, but like i say, music is about personal choices, and contrary to popular belied, im not all aboutMadonna, Steps and The Spice Girls, i like a bit of depressing rock too..So THERE

Yay for Radiohead, Suede and R.E.M.'s Monster, which may be patchy, but the highlights are brilliant.

I also love "White Heat."

How do ya like that, ma? Heh!
Here's my answer, you dirty ...

Fave tracks: Push Upstairs / Shudder - King of Snake/ Jumbo

The third album from Underworld, beating Second Toughest in the Infants tobe in this list, some experimental sound used here and it opens with "Cups"and off we go on a fabulous mad journey...Including such stormers as "Jumbo" which just swirls and swirls to a fabulous climax and the super "Push Upstairs" with its mad beats...The production is great and the usual mad vocals are here...i likey

Im not saying much more really other than its one of the finest dance albums ever made, and in my opinion, the nest Underworld album...
