PJ Harvey's new album has been recorded and promotion should kick off around April/May time. That's all I can say for now... There will be a tour to promote the album but no tour dates have been finalised so please do not mail and ask...

Rob Ellis has a new album released in April and his website will be updated to reflect this. Polly does not appear on the album.

Mark Lanegan's new album should be released in February and features Polly singing on two tracks.

Don't forget to check out the book 'On The Other Side Of the Lens' featuring two photographs taken by Polly for this project. ISBN 1904688063

FINALLY !! :D After May would probably harm my examresults less but..;)
Since it took her so long ,let's hope it's at least three times better than 'Stories..'.

We know Bjork's coming with a new album (and a single box) later, now only Kate Bush and it'd be a perfect year for me.

If the tracks on there are the same quality as 'Shame' hinted at....then it won't;)

Yay! Can't wait! I've been on a Peej overload for the past few months.

Last year, before the recording, Polly described the sound as something 'ugly, dark & rough'.

YOOHOO !!! That's the PJ I love ;)

('Desperate Kingdom Of Love' and 'Who The F*ck' weren't that bad either)

Didn't like that at all, so I hope it's the exception...

Seeing as it is my favourite Peej album, I wouldn't really complain about that.

What do you not like about it then ?

Wasn't too impressed by either 'Shame' of 'Who the Fuck' but really loved 'Desperate Kingdom of Love' - dark but very touching too...

I've always found it nigh on impossible to decide which PJ album is the best. 'Rid of Me', 'TBYML', 'Desire' and 'Stories' are very contrasting and all excellent albums the whole way through...

TBYML I find the most daring though...

My favourites do alternate. It's especially not easy to rank them since they're all some great albums. I'll throw in Dancehall, which I only got recently. It's easily the weakest, but then it's not a proper Peej album. It's just a little too weird. Anyway -

1. Is this Desire?
2. Rid of Me
3. To Bring you my Love
4. Dry
5. Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
6. 4-Track Demos
7. Dancehall at Louse Point

[/B] Exactly how I would rank them

I don't know where to put '4 Track Demos' and 'Dance Hall..'. Depending on the moment, they sound either quite good or mediocre. They both contain some of her most impressive stuff though.

Christ, I'm well out the boat on Peej. I think "Danchall" is great and bears up to repeated listening better than, say, "Dry" which, whilst it has the better songs is just too uniform for me over its full course.

My ranking would probably be...

1. Rid of Me
2. To Bring you my Love
3. Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
4. Is This Desire?
5. Dancehall at Louse Point [/B][/QUOTE]
6. Dry
7. 4 Track Demos (which I haven't listened to for ages BTW...)

4 Track Demoes is FREAKY!

1. To Bring You My Love
2. Stories from the City...
3. Rid of Me (the sheer terror of it means it beats..
4. Is this Desire
5. Dance Hall at Louse Point
6. 4 Track Demoes

I omit Dry which I now think I never will own :(

Ooooh and some more album news, but this time from the official site:

4th March 2004

Album News

Whilst no official announcements have been made - we hear that the new P J Harvey album can be expected this summer. Our sources also tell us that the album was written, performed and produced by Polly with Head & Polly recording & mixing it. Rob Ellis, a long-time collaborator of Polly's, played drums & percussion on the record. No news yet on an album title but we have managed get information on some of the track titles which include Who The Fuck?, Shame, The Life And Death of Mr. Badmouth, The Letter and The Pocket Knife amongst others.
We've been told to expect more news shortly, so check back regularly for updates over the coming weeks.

The Life And Death of Mr.Badmouth's an interesting title. Seems like 'Who The Fuck' made it and 'Desperate Kingdom Of Love'...(?)..

Oh and this means this is the first album she made completely herself. With Head & Rob Ellis as collabraros, I reckon something in the direction of her first 2 albums. Can't wait for the damn thing to come out !

From Pitchfork:

New PJ Harvey Album Due This Summer
Still pissed that eponymous claymated Fox sitcom cancelled
Chris Leslie-Hynan reports:
It's been three and a half years since Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea, but a new PJ Harvey album is expected early this summer, according to her official site. The as-yet-untitled album is rumored to be the most Polly-centric yet; apparently Ms. Harvey plays all the instruments save the percussion (tackled by longtime collaborator Rob Ellis), and is also the chief producer, recording and mixing the songs with help from Head.

PJ Harvey has been playing material from the album as far back as last summer, while touring on Europe's festival circuit. At the time, Harvey spoke about the record in progress to New Musical Express, calling it "a much more simple, rough, raw-sounding record. It's brutally honest, there's not a lot of beautifying of anything. On the last record I was very into creating layers of beauty and melodic intensity and soft beautiful sounds, and all of that's gone out the window now. I tend to be someone that reacts against (their) last piece of work, so I've gone for quite ugly sounds and quite disturbing, raw, angry, upsetting sort of material...with this record, it's pretty ugly really. Quite an ugly sounding batch of songs. Quite disturbing, quite dark, quite bluesy." Could you say "ugly" again just one more time, Polly?

Loops of songs from the album have already been leaked to file-sharing services. Whether all of these songs will appear on the album is up for debate, and PJHarvey.net states that a song not included among the loops, "The Pocket Knife," will definitely appear on the album. Tracklist of the loops:

01 Who the Fuck?
02 The Slow Drug
03 The End
04 Shame
05 You Come Through
06 The Letter
07 No Child of Mine
08 Cat On the Wall
09 The Life and Death of Mr.Badmouth
10 The Darker Days of Me and Him
11 The Desperate Kingdom of Love
12 It's You
13 Untitled

PJ Harvey looks set to play plenty of European festivals again this summer, with a May solo date already confirmed in Paris along with a headlining date at Barcelona's Primavera Festival in June. Appearances are also rumored at the Glastonbury, T in the Park, and Rock Werchter fests. Theres no word about any PJ Harvey dates in America as yet, though Billboard reports that Harvey will not be taking part in the live debut of Josh Homme's Desert Sessions at Coachella on May 1st. Dates:

05-29 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera Festival
06-23 Paris, France - Zenith
