Are Sandals still peddling their DELIGHTFUL "mixed couples only" line for their all-inclusive hols? :manson:
Not that you'd catch me going back to the Carribbean, I found it thoroughly HELLISH

If you want to go out of Europe in October, I'd recommend Miami, Morocco or Cape Town (although it's only coming out of Spring there then... but it IS dirt cheap).
The Caribbean wasn't really my thing... the hotel was full of honeymooning couples and old biddies. Plus you couldn't lie on the beach without being harrassed by touts which meant back to the pool... and the honeymooning couples. Being the only male couple in the entire resort meant we attracted lots of attention. None of it negative mind, just more than a little annoying after a few days.

Well Im probably not going with Cwoj anyway- we've decided on a spring holiday we THINK so thats that out. And I just want a lazy holiday...nice all inclusive NONSENSE
And no Miami THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Im just throwing ideas out.
the caribbean smacks of wrinkly swinging resorts to me for some reason.

To be honest, I'm totally OFF Miami. But if you've never been, I can see the appeal.
Key West is very pretty too, although I'm rather over that too.

Im not OVER anything but Miami sounds HIDEOUS to me. All those FOUL homosexuals flaunting their BITS everywhere ? NO THANK YOU
Besides, my potential holiday CHUM used to work there, so I doubt she will fancy it
And this is less about fashionable places to go and more about CHEAP and SUNSHINE, thats all
All this is irrelevant one might add if CWOJJIE decides to come with me...

the caribbean smacks of wrinkly swinging resorts to me for some reason.HEDONISM :zombie:
I'd say Jamaica would be a big no no unless you want your cock chopped off.
Mexico is supposed to be rather good though. Maybe you should take Reet's advice and take a look.
Oh HEDONISM. I saw a programme about THERE. It made me feel DECIDEDLY ILL

I do fancy Mexico ACTUALLY
Mexico isnt all THAT expensive EITHER

Miami's not as gay as you might think. Key West sounds more like what you're describing there, although it's a damn sight prettier than Miami (Ocean Drive aside).
I don't know how cheap the Caribbean is, but South Africa is very cheap once you're there as is Mexico. I don't know if they do resort style holidays there though.
Thailand is really good too and not crazy expensive by any means. Plus you get a far more varied clientele than in the Caribbean... I don't want to bang on about it, but it really wasn't good. And I'm not the only one of my friends to say they'd NEVER go back there. Just food for thought of course...

Now Thailand I quite like the look of TOO but it does look like the sort of place you'd need to EXPLORE and want to spend loads of cash in...

For Thailand you basically have two options... one is to visit the cities (Bangkok, etc) and the highlands (Chiang Mai, etc).
The other is to do a beach holiday on the islands off the eastern coast (Koh Samui, etc.)
You CAN of course combine the two (which is what I did when I first went). But for a 10 day trip, I think you'd get a lot out of 3/4 days in Bangkok then a week in an island resort. You get a rounded feel for Thailand but you're not travelling all over the place either. And that kind of thing wouldn't be expensive AT ALL.
best to go in jan/feb for thailand though - isn't it reainy season otherwise?

Hmmm, see to be fair, I really dont want a 2 centre holiday. Im very much the sort of person who wants to do cultural things and really SEE a country but Ive done so much of that in Europe lately that I just want to go, collapse, read ten books and eat my weight in food and gin on a nightly basis...
A real LAZY holiday
Cuba tends to be much cheaper than the rest of the Caribbean...no idea what the weather's like in October though. It'd be a bit of a shame to go and not see Havana though, so probably not much good if you actually do just wanna relax...

That might be true Vicks. But I think the monsoon clears up by September time... though that would obviously be be something you'd need to check.
With tropical destinations, you ALWAYS run the risk of having some bad weather at some point...

Fly direct to Koh Samui (you might have to to change planes in Bangkok, you might not). You can definitely fly direct to Phuket, but I don't know what kind of state that island's in since the tsunami - come to think of it, it might be a lot cheaper than usual.
Does anyone know any good websites for cheap New York package deals?
Flights to New York will be relatively cheap from November with them going for around £300-£350 but its the hotels that are really quite dear and they are either really shit or in a bad location eg beside the airport which means your 25+ miles away from Manhattan. How many days were you planning on going away?

Phuket I think is alright- it wasnt hit THAT badly I dont think (my parents had gone just before so were intrigued and investigated)
Again, Cuba is another place I REALLY want to see and Havana would be a must...

The Dominican Republic is very nice and if you're thinking of Mexico you can't really go wrong with Cancun.

These are basically my two main ideas at the moment- seem to be reasonably cheap from what I can see too...
