Her ridiculous acceptance speech, the politics of the night and her hilarious career self-destruction after this film pretty much makes Halle Berry's performance feel like a mere afterthought. But having just watched it, she's actually BLOODY good in this. I was a bit put off at first because it's really not a typical oscar performace, it's really real and uncompromising.

The whole film was very enjoyable actually, if a tad simplistic. Puff Daddy Diddy in "Decent actor" SHOCKER

It's OK. Overrated though.

I wasn't really that impressed.

I thought it was a boring piece of shit and a well orchestrated move by Halle to prove herself as a serious actress.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago...It was quite good, but yeah, a bit overrated. I was impressed with Halle though...she definitely did deserve her oscar.

Of the five nominees, I thought Halle was the least deserving and that's including Renee Zellweger's performance in Bridget Jones' Diary. Judi Dench (Iris) or Sissy Spacek (In the bedroom) deserved the award more IMO.

I'd say Sissy or Judi certainly deserved the Oscar too, but Halle was infinitely better than bloody Renee!

Renee = Token comedic role nominee

Yes, but she wasn't very good. Gaining enough weight to make you look like an actual human being rather than a swizzle-stick with a head does not an Oscar Winning performance make.

I have to say I left the cinema distinctly UNDERWHELMED

Yes, but she wasn't very good.

Her performance was decent enough for what it was. You forget she also had to learn to speak with an English accent. And the whole point of being a TOKEN nominee is that you're the one person everyone knows hasn't a chance of winnng.

Gaining enough weight to make you look like an actual human being rather than a swizzle-stick with a head does not an Oscar Winning performance make.
It worked for Charlize Theron didn't it?

It worked for Charlize Theron didn't it?

Much as i grumbled about Theron winning, as it was so painfully obvious she would, she is FANTASTIC in Monster. Yes she REALLY wanted that Oscar, but it doesn't mean she didn't deserve it.

i just saw this last night after meaning to for ages and owning it for about a year

a mate said it was a very tough movie to watch, so i was kinda waiting for a right time

what a load of SHIT
and halle berry was ridiculous, i didn't buy it for one second, if anything she kept cracking me up
the whole movie as mentioned in the thread seemed like a halle promo vehicle
it managed to sag and drag while zooming over important moments and even failing to address some

i liked the idea, but it was underwhelming and didn't fill it's potential

and diddy was bullshit

Nonsense - she was very good in it

Not sure she deserved the Oscar... although it was "award the blacks" year, so Judi didn't stand a chance

Halle will always be A list regardless - she has enough black to play the race card and enough white to get support from the middle class. She's the Mariah of Hollywood

Oh actually that last bit was just mean. :( Poor Halle.

i quite used to like halle, but don't be ridiculous, even if i still liked her i'd still say she was LUDICRUOUS

i wanna feel GOOUHUHUOOD
*miaow, miaow, parp*

I like Halle, but it's more in the way of her being quite nice but having such a horrendous car crash of a career, it's too funny to miss seeing what new depths she'll have sunk to next in her film choices.

From what I've seen of Halle Berry in interviews etc, I have to say I think she seems like a LOVELY, down to earth kind of woman...and it warms me to her

Accepting her Razzie was a MASTERSTROKE as well
