Loufoque

WHY NOT? Everyone else (with a few notable exceptions) has. Why should we always be so CONTRARY

Apart from the fact that the Sterling Pound is the 3rd most powerful currency in the world after the US dollar and yep... the Euro, which gives us a lot of economical strength as a nation. By going into a currency that is being dragged down by some very weak economies (and if Turkey go in then oh dear), we could find ourselves in a pickle.

Not to mention the fact that HUNDREDS of countries round the world have got their own currency - and it's just NICE. It's something that most countries are kind of proud of, because otherwise they wouldn't all be so proud and use their own, when there are far better currencies they could be using.

Plus we'd lose loads of jobs in the foreign exchange and banking industry if we went into the Euro - in the short term perhaps the banking industry would gain jobs, but 10% of their business is done in foreign exchange.

And those are my reasons.

And if Switzerland refuse to even join the EU when they're SURROUNDED by the cunts, why should we?

And if Switzerland refuse to even join the EU when they're SURROUNDED by the cunts, why should we?Switzerland and Norway have NO NEED to. They're small and very rich. Why SHARE?

Switzerland has a history of isolationism. Britain has always shoved its oar in at every available opportunity.

So are we. Small and even richer, but for some stupid reason we seem to want to go in.

Britain normally only shoves its oar in if it can have complete control over something though, not have a say that equates to only 4% of what results.

Because if you do, then we will be FORCED to do it too. Mind you, my stupid cowardish country mostly follows everything you do when it comes to EU policy.

Britain hasn't had complete control over ANYTHING for years.

I thought we were richer than Switzerland. I'm not gonna argue about it if you say we're not though, cos my geography and economy knowledge, whilst not being UTTERLY useless, is not great either.

As the UK has nothing to run anymore, it just has a small part in as many things it possibly can.

Loufoque

The UK has a bigger economy, due in large part to a larger population.

Per capita, Switzerland and Norway are amongst the richest countries in the world. The UK is reasonably far down the list.

I'd imagine they are richer if you work it out per person but we have the higher GDP?

UK has the bigger economy (no doubt about that!!) but they're not 'richer'.

But anyway a country could be very rich and still not have a stabile currency. And I'm sure that both Norway and Switzerland will more or less have to join the rest.

It doesn't really matter how rich we are per capita though does it? At the end of the day, USA is the strongest country in the world even though about half of its population live in poverty.

The Swiss Franc in particularly is only getting stronger and stronger against the Euro... and the Pound is just static against it.

Yes, but the US (despite having many living in poverty) still has the highest per capita in the world (if I'm not mistaken).

The USA has a 100% immigrant/immigrant-descended population.

Switzerland make a fortune from banking. Norway from Oil. So long as neither changes, they'll have no need to join up.
