Didn't even know this was being released but saw it on Monday and bought it. Well overdue but surely worth £40. The whole 5-disc thing isn't that great considering they could probably have got it on 2 or 3 but it's nice to have everything including the Comic Relief specials.
Though every time I watch it I just want them to make more.

Anyone who buys should be fucking shot. That includes you. You should be shot.
I've never understood why people hate this show SO much.... It's very tame and far from genius, but it's totally inoffensive.

it's the 3rd greatest comedy remember :|
and that last Christmas special or whatever was cringeworthy. I mean, THAT ending :zombie:
Oh I did hate the Christmas special actually. The fat jokes aren't funny now, they're GROTESQUE.

I can see why people hate it because it pretty much is the same jokes (which aren't even that witty, though it has had one or two moments) every episode.
I still find it highly watchable though.

How many series were there? And does it include the Christmas specials?
I'll probably buy it if I see it cheap. Certainly wouldn't pay anything approaching £40 for it.

£40 is the cheapest I saw it. Virgin was £55 and HMV was £65.
It has has a DVD of the first series, a DVD of two specials, one of the second series, one of the four seasonal specials and the final one is the ones from last Christmas, plus on one of the discs there are Comic Relief and other little specials that were done.
I guess on reflection it's not AS comprehensive as it could be because there isn't much in the way of extras like a commentary. Considering the amount of time (over ten years now) they've had to put it together they could hardly say they've not had time to record one.

Were there really only two proper series?

I wouldn't even call the second series a "proper" series, it's only four episodes.
It's TERRIBLE
I liked it up to the point where Liz Smith left, but ever since it's been patronising, unfunny, repetitive, unsubtle old WANK.

Oh it had some good moments
I remember I almost wet myself with a certain ballet scene :shy:
My favourite scene is Hugo's Proposal to Alice....
"Alice, as Sigourney Weaver said to the little girl in the movie 'Aliens'...."
"Get away from her you BITCH!"
The wedding episode is the best one!
"sorry wrong church"

The two specials they had on last Christmas were bad beyond belief. Talk about being SO fucking patronising!
I LOVE The Vicar of Dibley, though I'm not sure I saw the specials you guys are talking about. I agree the wedding episode is very very funny and I still think the end of every episode is very funny.

I quite liked the Christmas specials though I think it was just nice that they'd actually made some new ones.
I think the best run of episodes is season 2 and the four seasonal specials that came after it (though probably over a year after it), were they actually screened over a year?

And the fact that Dawn French was looking morbidly obese in last year's specials was slightly off putting too. Yeah she's always been big but not THAT big.

Exactly how I feel. Considering how obviously dangrously overweight she is, the Chocolate scene at the end was just utterly hideous and really uncomfortable viewing. She really needs to realise how much she's putting her life in danger, she has a little girl!

She was noticeably larger this is true.
I wouldn't object to her fat jokes because of that though, I'm sure she's not STUPID.

Aww, I quite like it. It's harmless fun. Although I absolutely agree on the point of the last xmas special being quite DREADFUL.

It's not harmless.
