A musical based around former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is due to start a tour of the UK in February.

The production by the Foursight Theatre details the life of the Iron Lady herself, showing the progression from grocer's daughter to most powerful woman in the country. Thatcher is actually played by nine different people through the course of the play, each taking on a different facet of the icon.

"It neither denigrates nor glorifies [Mrs Thatcher]," Naomi Cooke, director of the all-women's theatre troupe told Reuters. "It is an examination of who she was and how she changed the political landscape of this country. This is not agitprop theatre."

Cooke admitted it was a risk to write a musical about a leader who many Britons remember with distaste, but she said that she thought of the production as a "light satire" and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

The show's songs have been written by Jill Dowse and arranged by Mary Keith, and include such gems as The Cabinet Shuffle, The Tory Blues and The Grocer's Daughter.
