I've got TotalRecorder. Nice and easy to use. Other people tend to use these big overblown programmes that take up precious memory.

i like my programs like me - lite, user-friendly and with simple interfaces
is it downloadable somewhere?

BUT that's just a trial version and you can only do 30 second recordings at a time. I found a crack ages ago. If you haven't got an alternative before I get home I'll upload it for you.

For recording analogue audio into the computer? Sound Forge is a good professional quality program that takes up hardly any memory / hd space.

That was recommended to me ages ago. I'm too thick to work that shit out. I just want to tape, convert to mp3 and go.

I always record things with JetAudio Basic, which is also my Juke-Box for Music.
There are also programmes that are in the background of the Pc working, and recording streams kind of automatically, but I forgot the name right now...

Thats all you have to do if you want though... just press record and it brings it in as a full quality wav but you can just 'save as type' mp3. In fact I'm sure you can set it up so it automatically records as mp3 as well.
You just also have the option of tidying it up (cutting the start and end, getting rid of pops and clicks, bringing it up to CD volume etc...) if you want.

That's not what it looked like at ALL when my brother installed it for me. It was a huge programme and didn't even have a basic Record/Play/Pause/Stop panel.
I use Audacity. I don't know how big it is but it works fine.
Yeah I use Audacity as well. No problems.

I use Audacity to edit things. I can't record with it.
Why not? It is perfectly able to.

It just won't recognise any sounds coming from my computer.

Here's the incredibly simple and easy version of Total Recorder I use. It's not an up to date version, but it does the job how I want it and a baby could use it: http://download.yousendit.com/2C6E57615EEA310F

Do you have the 'Wave Out Mix' selected in windows recording options? Most people don't realise you have to have it turned on instead of 'Microphone'.

I don't even have any options like that. It's incredibly old: v1.2.2.
I can never be arsed to get newer versions because the cracks don't always work.
Its not in audacity options. Its in the windows options.
Control Panel -> Sound & Audio Devices -> Voice -> Voice Recording, Volume.

Thanks anyway :D There's something wrong with my soundboards. I can't play Quicktime files with sound either. Sometimes they play muffled or not at all.

I have quite an old version (v5.0) so maybe it's changed but on mine there's a record button on the toolbar at the top and if you click that it goes to the record box where theres another actual record button...
wiretap is the best program for that EVER.
costs something measely like $10 to get the full version but you can get a freetrial for free.
Could some kind person rip the sound off THIS (http://www.myspace.com/officialkimwilde) for me please?
I'd be eternally grateful :)
