I can do it on my creative, but can't see that it can be done on an iPod, other than by making an actual playlist, which is a bit of a faff and ruins the element of surprise.

Yes. Just select the artist, then select "All" instead of a specific album while it's on shuffle.

Works FINE for me. Mine is always on Shuffle mode.

Main Menu > Music > Artists > xxx Artist > All

How do you turn it on to shuffle mode ?

I only have a "shuffle songs" thing I use...

Ooh how EXCITING as this has been one of my BUGBEARS for SOME TIME

Oh, just go to Settings and select Shuffle Songs from there.

I only just noticed Shuffle Songs on the new main menu. So that's what the last software update did.

Ellie, is yours 5th generation? I've got shuffle on my main menu, but as soon as I select that, it shuffles immediately among all the tracks I've got on it.

If I go into 'all' it will play all the tracks by the artist I've chosen, but in alphabetical album order.

Yes mine is 5G. It's not Shuffle on the main menu to use. Select it from the "Settings" menu. Then all lists you play in will be random.

Oh, forget it, I see!

I've got to select shuffle songs from the settings menu, not shuffle from the main menu itself. Thanks :D

I only just noticed Shuffle Songs on the new main menu. So that's what the last software update did. You've always been able to do it by fiddling around in the Settings Menu.

The last update was for "bug fixes" and "Volume limit".

I know you have, but I think the last software update put a Shuffle Songs option directly on the main menu that instantly told it to shuffle the entire library. That's where lolly was going wrong.

That 'Shuffle Songs' thing is very prominent now. Think it's been there for a while though, certainly since I got my Nano...

Have they removed the volume limit thing now then? I was expecting a problem but haven't found one. It's considerably louder than my creative at the highest setting.

how can ANYONE have lived without being able to shuffle songs from one artist? :o

lolly

Well I couldn't, THAT was my point :D

I did it all the time on my creative; it's easily the way I listen to music most. Then when I couldn't figure out how to do it on the iPod, I was a little worried...

Strange... I thought it had to be there because of that law passed in France. So unless they've changed that, I don't see what they should have removed it. But, good news if they have!

I only have 3 playlists:

The Jacksons - all of them which is about 1000 songs now.
Breakdance mix
Party tunes
