I think most ARE region free nowadays. I mean, I bought mine from a normal UK retailer (or Cwoj did, anyway, when he bought me a DVD REcorder for my birthday last year) and I just googled the make and found a hack that basically converts it without touching the hardware, which has to be better for it...

you can't find them in stores here in the US.. I didn't think about hacking one though :disco:

I guess I could always find one I like and look for a hack before I buy it

You can get them region free ready in UK stores. US on the other hand, not as common. It's mainly the whole NTSC/PAL thing.

You CAN but not in the main stores...a lot of them use blatant bad advertising by saying something is "Multiregionable" when it isnt multi region ready out of the box...

You can in Richer Sounds. I wouldn't buy a DVD player anywhere else.

And online Amazon.co.uk do them.

I don't WANT to hack mine, but I just can't get my head round how you'd go about it AT ALL

Sheena

Really easy ! You just type a series of numbers into your remote control USUALLY

Yep, Remote control hacks also don't void the warranty. It was stuff like Sony and Panasonic that wouldn't have those and you'd have to send off for them to be taken apart but then that would break the original warranty - that was back in 1999 when I got my first player anyway.

I've always had no problems at all with PISS CHEAP amazon.co.uk multi-region ones.
