But WHY ON EARTH is Theo Walcott there? They're clearly wanting him to be the new England hero for this World Cup :bored:

It's a really interesting squad selection... and you can't say that too often about Sven's squads. The Walcott thing is fascinating... huge gamble obviously but it may just come off. I'm more concerned at only taking four strikers- one is crocked, one is injury prone and hasn't played in months, one is unproven and the other is err... Peter Crouch. I'm surprised Wright-Phillips hasn't been included-he's a proven performer at this level despite his few starts at Chelsea this season. Lennon's an interesting pick. Sven's bizarre love affair with Hargreaves continues. I think I would get rid of him and Jenas and i'd certainly bring a fifth striker- Defoe probably.

So, he's picked 4 strikers, 2 of whom are injured and one of whom is an untested school boy! It'll either be bitter humilation or off to final, no inbetweens!

Picking 4 strikers when 2 of them are injured and one hasn't made a start for his club is HIGHLY risky.
I'm not bothered about Shaun WP, i don't want too many players in the team who aren't match fit. Bent would have been good though...

To be fair, SWP hasn't really had the best of seasons has he? So him missing out on the squad isn't THAT much of a blow but surely it's logical to bring a fifth striker for the obvious reasons stated above. Owen Hargreaves serves NO pupose whatsoever. It's pretty obvious to me that he should be swapped for a goalscorer like Darren Bent or even Andy Johnson. That way we have another option to fall back on if Rooney and Owen don't make it or if Walcott turns out to be utter shite at international level.

Joe Cole is pretty much yer only fallback if the worst case scenario should emerge. Lampard and Gerrard can be relied upon to pop 'em in the net too so it's not a disaster. Yet.
who is this youth who's never played in the premiership?

Walcott. He's 17, and was bought by Arsenal but has yet to make a start.
Sven's pretty much banking on him being the next Rooney...

The only advantage with the striker crisis is that it gives Sven the chance to play one of them a bit further forward, in their more natural roles...

Apparently Sven is thinking of playing Joe Cole as an attacking midfielder/supporting striker if all else fails ...

That's a great idea Sven given that Cole's seemingly the only player who can play in the notoriously problematic left midfield position. I think that move would probably create more problems than it would solve.

Especially when Wright-Phillips isn't even on STANDBY :grr:
There really are NO WORDS for some of his choices

If he is going ahead with the whole one striker idea it might be a better idea to deploy someone like Gerrard (or even Lampard) as a sort of roaming figure in behind the main striker (presumeably Owen if he's fit and Rooney isn't). Then you could just fill the vacant role in midfield with a holding player like Carrick. All that's probably a bit too logical for Sven though...

You'd easily get some decent odds for Gerrard being England's top scorer and you'd most likely get some money back as well.
