View Full Version : How easy is it to fit new USB ports into a laptop?

Obviously I'm not going to do it myself, but I've got a friend who is willing to give it a go.

My old laptop is over 3 years old, out of guarantee and all 3 USB ports are fucked. Would it cost that much to get it done professionally? Seems daft to bin it as it's quite serviceable otherwise.

It wouldn't be that hard to actually do. Literally undue a screw and unplug and cable, place the new one in with the screw and plug it in. It's just finding the right size USB port. Best way would be to take the current one out, go to a computer shop and ask if they can order a new one.

I don't know how much it would cost to get it all done professionally. Last year when I had to get part of my laptop power connection soldered (sp?) back on, that cost £120.
