I was way too old to be sitting down on Saturday mornings watching this, but did it stop me? NO!

Ally Ross (cunt homophobic TV critic in The Sun) described SMTV as a "faggots appreciation society" :manson:

The 'We Are The World' thread has brought me back to SM:TV again - I LOVE these clips from Wonkey Donkey and that they basically call the kids out for being THICK.

It was never the same after they left. I used to watch it religiously every Saturday and when I wasn't watching it at home I was in the audience of cd:uk. SMTV and cd:uk were both a very big part of my life in the early 00's.
Watch from 1min 18secs to see Ant & Dec perform their shit single with the chart "stars" of that era featuring Lousie, Atomic Kitten, Victoria Beckham, Mel C etc...

I quite liked them using SM:TV to rip the PISS out of H & Claire, but that a brief high point in an unrelenting downward spiral.

Two highlights from being at the SMTV/cd:uk studio were having Britney Spears say to me "Thank-you for dancing" after her performance of 'Overprotected' and my mate Stacey stealing a Pokemon toy off the table near where Ant, Dec and Cat sat.
I know RB's favourite moment was when he saw Kylie's cunt during her performance of 'On A Night Like This' (incidently this was the day I met RB for the first time).

That's a shame. If you had known him before, we'd have scientific evidence of the effect of Kylie quim on flegeling homosexuals.

When H & Claire did SMTV they used to receive DEATH THREATS from Steps fans because they split Steps up. It was never confirmed that Lisa Scott-Lee and her mum Jan were behind the threats...

I didn't dislike them THAT much, but they were always going to cop the blame. I remember them trying to put the blame on the other three for being less interested, but at the end of the day, they were still the ones that were THERE.
Besides which, Lisa Scott-Lee clearly couldn't mastermind her way out of a wet paper bag, so it was a bit like kicking a small puppy.

Whoever was doing Claire's styling around this time was clearly taking the piss as they used to dress her in some horrendous outfits. I can't find my favourite one which was this metalic tin foil smock type thing that looked like one of those things they give people after they run a marathon but this is pretty bad. It didn't help that she was really stacking on the weight.

God they really were SHIT despite trying ten times harder than when they were in Steps. This is one of my favourite car-crash performances from their entire career.
Mimed? Check.
H miming to chorus he's not singing? Check.
Claire missing her cue and standing CLUELESSLY whilst her vocal plays? Check.
Ridiculous ad-libs which she doesn't even BOTHER miming? Check.

I like this bit about Claire on wikipedia:
Taking a break from singing to plan her wedding (a marriage which subsequently failed)
Flop #53 album AND a flop marriage :( Faye must've been getting her white witch on to do some voodoo.

Oh god the STYLING in that Over You video. It's like the worst DRESS DOWN FRIDAY ever.
I pathologically hated Claire Richards in those days. She had a LONG way to go to match the delights of Gaby Roslin and her comfortable mum jeans on Motormouth.

I can't believe we have a thread about SM:TV, possibly the greatest thing for kids in the late90s/early00s, and Moopy has decided to talk about when it went MASSIVELY SHIT because it was H and Claire what done it. I hope those terrible two haven't soiled the show's legacy for everyone else. How i hate them for featuring in the demise of two of my childhood institutions.
Anyway i loved it MASSIVELY. I can't stand Ant and Dec's stuff now, but on here i though they were so much funnier, riskier and likable then they are on their prime time shows. Now their jokes are as old and tired as the people they're generally aimed at. SMTV with them and Cat could make me laugh til i cried most weeks, especially when watched with mates after a sleepover (which were all the rage for me at the time). There was so much i loved -
- Anty and Decky the Garden Gnomes
- The Bewdiful Corrs (bewdiful)
- Chums
- Wonky Donkey
- The Postbag Dance
- The Secret of My Success
- and subsequently Cat the Dog from Birmingham
- The Pokefights
- Challenge Ant
In fact the only things i didn't like were the programmes they showed (Sabrina aside), which always felt like they were wasting valuable presenter time. MY word it did go terrible when the main three left, and the likes of chums were replaced with 'FartBeat'.

I LOVED Challenge Ant. There's not enough of it on YouTube. It might have been their last episode or one on Ant's birthday where Lisa thingy his girlfriend/future wife asked all the questions.
No no, here it is, with Clarie Buckfield too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loKI5Z2DJ2I

SMTV was genuinely amazing TV. God, I loved it and I was in my twenties.
Chums was great - comedy gold in a completely shit way.
I had a dream about a year ago that Ant died and I'm still convinced it's true. When I saw this thread, I got all sad and then realised it's not actually happened.
