And I get a blue screen saying it's a serious error thing. I have NO IDEA why...
But I get THIS error message-
"BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : 907AF36C BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 805086C2
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1 "
What does THAT MEAN ?

you have a serious error on your computer.
i suggest downloading a serious error solver from the internet.

A blue screen usually indicates a serious error but it could just as well be software related as hardware related.
Have you tried using the restore function (providing you're using XP)?

Your hard disk isn't gay and can't cope with what's on there?

At least it's only the blue screen of death and not the red screen of death.

I'm not sure I've ever had that.

Well yes, I was going to wipe everything and start again
Is that the same as "RESTORE" ?
How do I do THAT ?
Thing is, I don't WANT TO have to do that...it's such a FAFF...

No. You won't need to go through the rigmarole of a complete reinstall then. It's an option in Windows XP (in Control Panel):
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx
If that doesn't work, there is an option to fix a previous Windows installation when you go through the reinstall method.

OOH I see...I'll have a go with System Restore then if it won't wipe any of my music files

Well ive done it back a month- I dont remember any problems before that, though I might be wrong
Seems the last thing I did software wise was upgrade to MSN Live MEssenger- that wouldn't have HURT me though would it ?

Possibly. There could be a conflict with anti-virus software or some such.

Enough with the IPOD remarks already. :Oi:
Oh, if your hard disk is making noises it could possibly point to a hardware related issue. It could be on the verge of failing.
The best I can say is back up and hope for the best!

I'm bloody TERRIFIED of my PC ever crashing. I have about 70gb of music on there, not to mention picture and uni work. Eek.
*resolves to back up*
I'm seriously thinking about switching to Apple since you don't get these problems.

I've got a nice 300-400GB that needs backing up! :D
And remember, a well built PC is easily better than an apple.

Reinstalling Windows is easy peasy - it's backing up all the data beforehand that is a pisser.
GOD I HATE BACKING UP ALL MY STUFF.

actually mine is struggling at the moment with big downloads and having too many applications open. i think i need to de-frag (not so easy with a mac) or buy some more RAM.
i REALLY want to upgrade to a mac book pro but just can't afford it - especially now i've got to find the money to pay fot a holiday to thailand.

Don't they de-frag automatically when you put them to sleep? I tend to run 'Disk Utility' and verify and repair everything on the hard drive when things are getting a little slow and I give this (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30792) a run every now and then.
i wasn't aware that macs automatically defragged? could be wrong though.
i think i need to back everything up to my external hard drive then delete everything off and then re-load it all back on.
i've done some health checks recently and everything seemed ok though.
it's just running a bit slow and firefox has a tendency to crash when i'm downloading large files and say for example uploading some photos - which to be fair is quite demanding on 512mb of ram

Possible to bung more ram in?
