This is going to be DREADFUL... I'm almost embarassed FOR her....
And Liz hopes to be Britains answer to Delta Goodrem??? Yeah... um, good luck with that!
WHAT are the record companies thinking? These girls have NO chance at any kind of solo success bar maybe ONE hit single each. And they hardly fill a gaping hole, failed fromer girl group singersd are EVERYWHERE... 'Cut it internationally' my ARSE....
IT’S fast becoming a good week to be an ex-member of Atomic Kitten.
Just hours after KERRY McFADDEN won I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here! I can reveal two of the soon-to-split band have signed solo recording deals.
JENNY FROST and LIZ McCLARNON have each landed Ł250,000 one-album contracts with their old employer EMI.
Record chiefs now hope the girls will become the UK’s leading female singers.
EMI did not want to lose Jenny and Liz after their massive chart-topping success with the Kittens.
But to avoid a clash of interests, it is thought the girls will be promoted by separate EMI-owned labels.
Liz is expected to remain with the Kittens’ old label Innocent while Jenny moves to Parlophone.
Jenny, who replaced Kerry in the Kittens in 2001, is working on new material with her producer and fiancé DOM THRUPP.
Sources tell me she wants to win over older fans with a sexier, edgier sound than the band’s bubblegum pop.
But I’m told Liz will stay straight-laced and model herself on the likes of Aussie singer DELTA GOODREM.
Both girls will still be managed by MARTIN O’SHEA, who steered the Kittens to fame across Europe and Asia.
A source close to Jenny and Liz told me: “EMI are confident there is enough of a fan base for them both to do well. But the girls couldn’t both stay on Innocent because there would be a conflict of interests.
“Jenny wants to do more grown-up stuff and her sexy image will help. Dom will help get her credibility in clubs.
“Liz is taking less of a risk. She’s known as the straight-laced one from Atomic Kitten so that’s the road that she will go down as a solo artist.”
NATASHA HAMILTON is now the only Kitten without a record deal.
She instigated the band’s split by saying she wanted to spend more time with her baby JOSH — and the Kittens will call it a day after a UK tour in March.
But it’s not all bad news for Tash. I told you on Monday she has bought a Ł400,000 house in East London.
If Jenny and Liz each make it on their own, they will fill a gaping hole in the UK music scene.
At present, DIDO is Britain’s only female solo star cutting it internationally — and that’s just not good enough.
Last night a spokesman for the girls told me: “Obviously Jenny and Liz are both delighted and we expect big things from them.
“The Atomic Kitten tour is the priority at the moment — and after that the girls will be pursuing their solo projects.”
