View Full Version : Kylie debuts on the US hot 100
7th hit for her now, as 'Slow' enters at #93. She'll have to climb two places to best the peak of her last charting single and recent Grammy winner 'Come Into My World'.
I can't honestly see it getting much further, cos airplay's slowing down quite a lot for it, perhaps predictably, but i didn't expect it to chart at all so good for her. Hopefully 'Red Blooded Woman' can build on this.
I Should Be So Lucky: #28
The Locomotion: #3
It's No Secret: #37
Can't Get You Out Of My Head: #7
Love At First Sight: #24
Come Into MY World: #91
Slow: #93

well with NO single to back it and the album just getting a release I'm sure it won't go much higher:angry:

WHY they chose "Slow" as the first single remains an utter MYSTERY to me...
It might climb- airplay might pick up seeing as she is in the US for promo this week and next....
I barely expected it to debut at all. It's doing slightly better than I expected really. It hasn't killed her US career yet, anyway.

well she has yet to perform 'Slow' here but HAS performed 'Red Blooded Woman' on Good Morning America
rumor has it they are going to rush that soon as the next single

I suppose they saw it as something of an 'event' single a'la American Life. Though it's comparable failure everywhere else it was released (NOT that i'm one of those idiots who'd call a #1 a flop, but lets face it, sales WERE dismal and it didn't sell the album much) would have made ME think twice if I were a record company exec.
Ah well.

Its just SO un-American though. WHY they thought it was preferable to the INSTANTLY US Radio-friendly "RBW" is ASTONISHING- I can see why she released it in the UK (it was always going to do "well", its quite European sounding, it pushes "cool Kylie"...) but not the US at all.

I think the reason Slow got released was more of a stall tactic so she could get on with RBW elsewhere before she came to promote in the US
a lot have been suprised it charted as well as it has on Billboard considering Madonna did pretty dire on her last few singles

The problem now is that where the US is concerned, you are only as big as your last single- I dont reckon "RBW" will get much airplay if "Slow" doesn't....
But that's just silly. A flop lead single can only harm RBW's chances. The song hasn't beena disaster, thankfully, and RBW may yet pull a 'Beautiful' (Though I suspect on a MUCH smaller scale) but releasing a single not expected to do well from a fairly unestablished US act is just daft. Especially as US radio is SO keen on making non American/Canadian acts one hit wonders at the best of times....

I think they just figure "Throw it out and be done with it"
the US is a hard area to break into with all the crap the teenagers buy (generic rap and American Idol trash) so the chances of Kylie making it huge are slim to none anyway
(plus she hasn't been on the more popular programs here so not a lot of exposure at that)
the Grammy helps somewhat with the album sales since a lot of stores have "Grammy Winning Artist" displays up usually in the front area of stores but with no single she's getting nowhere fast

OMG! YAY KYLIE!
Has Body Language been released in the US yet?
I can vaguely recall a release days of Febrary 8, but I may be wrong.

But this is WHY she recorded "RBW" isnt it ? Its the most obviously blatant attempt at going R&B by ANY major act of the past ten years isnt it ? Its a carbon copy of "Cry Me A River"...

I agree but she was bound and determined to have Slow be the first single from the album everywhere it was released. It has gotten decent airplay which is a shock but it was a dumbass idea anyway. She would have done well to have RBW followed by something like Secret (Take You Home) which are both heavily RnB influenced.
When do the Hits Daily double figures start coming in and where can we see them?
I'm predicting a top 20 placing. If I had to give a position, I'd say #16.

we did get a 12'' I believe (but vinyl doesn't seem to be all that popular in the US.. and unless you live in a major city or get it online you would be hard pressed to find it)
she would have done well to put out a maxi-single though with the remixes.. debut would have been much higher

Hmmm, shall I buy the US "Body Language" ? Its only working out as £10.50 with shipping included and you get the enhanced bit and those nice coupla bonus tracks...
Hmmm...TEMPTING

From what I can see vinyl only seems to sell / get stocked in the big cities, which co-incidentally are the cities that contribute much of the playlists to Billboard's Dance Charts.
The other thing I've noticed is that some songs can chart in the lower reaches of the Hot 100 on a mixture of a small amount of sales points as well as a small amount of airplay by default as a record has to be in the top 75 of the Hot 100 Airplay Chart before it can chart on airplay points alone - this often allows records with a small amount of sales to chart in the very bottom reaches of the Hot 100, as some records with more points are disallowed as they have yet to make the Top 75 Airplay chart.

I want to purchase the Kylie album, but I'm also tempted by the Queer Eye soundtrack. It has the Chemical Brothers mix of Kylie and has some new Duran Duran song, amongst other things. Maybe I'll get both! And of course Melissa Etheridge and Courtney Love released too...

The Chem Bros mix is quite good but the album is SUPERIOR
I suggest EVERYONE get the Oz "RBW" single- it has the two "bonus" tracks on, the Chem mix of "Slow", 4 mixes of "RBW" and all for £5.99 inc P&P from HMV.au
AND its a ltd edition so might be worth something EVENTUALLY !

It's grammy week, sales are soaring for a lot of artists.
To be honest, i absolutely loathe RBW and is one of the least enjoyable songs by Kylie i have ever heard. Kylie is not an 'artist' you turn to for creative ability of talent, rather for fun pop/ dance music with no after-thougt, but shes failed on all counts with this single release. Surely there must be a better song on the album to release...:daf:
Isn't there a Canadian release of Body Language with even more on than the US version?

Well, apparently there was but it appears the version being sold on US Amazon.com IS the Canadian version (Or the same as it). The US Version was to have the two bonus tracks but no enhanced section, but it appears on amazon.com to have both...

It's much MORE important that the lovely Toxic jumps another 7 places to #22 :D
Kylie will nearly drop out next week again - her spins are already decreasing again
:bored:
