say you have this file that you never want anyone to know about, but fancy having it around just in case you ever want to see it again
what's the best way to protect it? i can't encrypt (at least my vista says so), i don't think hiding it through magicfolders or something is very safe
can i password protect a file? or maybe zip it and add a password? is that safe enough?

If you want to keep it that well hidden, can you burn it on to a disc which is hidden in a very safe place?

Yes. If someone is THAT determined to find what is on the file and is that capable... they'd probably be able to find out regardless.
Password hacking software is usually only as good as being able to crack three digit passwords.
