I put a CD in and it just does nothing, it doesn't even recognise there is anything in there.

Any ideas?

Is it a pre-recorded CD because one of my computers won't recognise CD-Rs if they're not "finished".

If the CD drive (mine is D: ) is still showing in "my computer" then I have no idea. If it isn't showing in there then the wire might have come out inside the computer box or it might just be buggered (but they're not too expensive for a new one and quite easy to fit).

Perhaps it's just hungry and needs feeding.

Have you tried toasting a piece of bread, using a pastry cutter to make a circle of approximately 5" diameter, spreading it with butter and marmite, and putting it in the drive?

How old is it? Bar taking it out of the case and making sure all the connections are working i'd say it was time for a new one.

Oh at least 4 years old, I remember my brother putting this cimputer together back in 2004. But the actual drive might even be older than that.

your drivers may have reset (I have no idea why this happens). try :

My computer
right click mouse
properties
hardware
device manager

and see if there are any yellow ! on where your DVD/CD drives are.
