So I'm thinking of getting a new iPod - are these touch ones really that good and any better than the original ordinary ones?
I'd actually like to have different models of iPod anyway. I wouldn't mind an iPod shuffle for the gym for instance.

Depends what your needs are. I use my touch for new albums and podcasts and my 80Gb model is more of an archive which I store EVERYTHING on.

Yeah, I know the touch has less space obviously.. do all the new features make it better though? Or is it just a bit gimmicky?

I am quite happy with my 16GB Nano. I only want a physically small object so i can use it one handed in the gym, and it's just portable. I have no intention of watching videos (though it can do this too, though on a smaller screen than the touch), so this is big enough for 3000 songs. I've never wanted to use an iPod as an archive, I would be forever skipping tracks if i had just low quality control

The touch is the best one for me, I have the 8 gig though a 16 gig would be more efficient...it obviously has the best screen for video, if you watch movies or TV shows on your iPod, and the wi-fi and useless apps work wonderfully. It's definitely the best choice if you would be utilizing all that, but if you just want an old fashion iPod that can be the database for your entire (large) music collection and don't really care for the internet, screen size, apps then I guess the normal iPod would be best suited for you.

Oh I have one loomer. It's dead swish, though a lot of the extras are hardly life changing and it's actually much more of a fiddle to use than the classic model. One surpirisingly large gripe for me is the fact that you can put a classic ipod in your pocket and still pause/play it and skip tracks by pressing the button through fabric, though with a touch you have to get it out or go around holding it like some dreadful flashy chave in order to do so. I think you can get headphones with a remote on now though (or they're working on it).
That said it's very pretty and it's quite nice to be able to go on the internet on it (even though it does make me more likely to spend far too much money on itunes). I also enjoy playing Crash Bandicoot racing or whatever it's called, where you tip the screen to steer (GENIUS). I would definitely reccommend a touch if you watch a lot of video on your ipod, since it's much better than the classic for that.

Yay, I love Crash Bandicoot.. I did see that actually. I was delighted when I saw a Nintendo DS game for it, I'm gonna get that Mutant Game for my PSP.

Konami has announced Metal Gear Solid Touch for iPhone and iPod Touch.
Due out next spring, MGS Touch is described as an original game that uses characters and settings from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
In the absence of buttons, it's entirely touch-controlled, with the screen used "for anyone to move their alignment or switch to zoom mode".
The initial game release will include eight levels, with more to be added later, and players will be able to unlock images and wallpapers by finishing them.
You can check out two (very small) screenshots in our Metal Gear Solid Touch screenshot gallery.
MGS Touch is part of a range of new Konami games for the iTunes App Store, with DanceDanceRevolution S Lite, Silent Hill: The Escape and Frogger all due for release later this month.
Of those, DDR and Frogger will work much as you expect (assuming you expect the DDR one to involve tapping arrows, not jumping up and down on your iPhone), whereas Silent Hill is a 3D shooter.
In it, you'll control someone by "sliding a finger across the touch panel screen and changing alignment to target enemies using the built-in altimeter".
The announcement of MGS Touch and friends also lays to rest the rumours earlier this month that an Xbox 360 version was about to be unveiled.
That was based on a teaser page with some green, Xboxy-looking imagery. However, returning to the same URL now reveals a Metal Gear Touch splash screen.
