View Full Version : EastEnders managed just 6.4 million viewers on Tuesday

Quite possibly it's lowest viewing figures EVER!
Well why would ANYONE want to watch? What's even happening at the moment? Janine left, after that I neither know nor care!

Beaten by Emmerdale I might add. They were head to head...
In fairness some might've forgot to turn over, and it was supposedly a "special", however the episode was a bit shit really, yet people stuck with it. As they SHOULD.

Hardly surprising. Its truly awful at the moment.
Well, in fairness it did start halfway through a major episode of Emmerdale, which featured Andy shooting Jack and then Jack fighting for his life.
It's not really surprising.

Exactly, it'll be back to 10 million or so tomorrow...more's the pity.
But even so, even a normal episode would still take a huge chunk away from EE's audience and lately would possibly beat it quite often...

Even I skipped Eastenders for Emmerdale actually.

I watched a couple of episodes post-Janine and just thought it was fucking awful again and have not bothered since....
I hope it doesnt keep ratings like this, I really do, but they need to do something and FAST...

Oh I do because that's likely to be the only thing that'll push them into doing something about this mess. It doesn't matter what people say, if the ratings are still decent things will probably remain the same...

But the likelihood is that they will get increasingly sensationalist as desperation seeps in, more people will abandon it full time and that will be it...
A long way off, I admit, but long term ratings problems will NOT be good...
There's a two hander between Kat and Alfie next Tuesday.

I just think a seriously low point has to be reached otherwise nothing will change whatsoever. Better it gets even worse (if that's possible) and loses more viewers so they get new writers and producers in.
EE has been average to shit ever since Louise Berridge took over for me.

And there was a time when their two-handers used to be something GREAT to look forward to, always well-scripted and between interesting characters...now they just give them to any old dullards.

Which is what they SHOULD do, but what they'll probably do is ditch half the cast. I predict that if things get much worse, there'll be at least half a dozen cast members axed. I mean, for a start the Ferreras have to go, they just don't work at all. And they need some new characters, some new blood to freshen the place up.
And as for Alfie and Kat, I think that's one thing that is wrong with Eastenders, it's so fucking MISERABLE all the time. Those two have only just got married and now the writers are trying to split them up. Yes viewers like to see drama, but not people being miserable all the time. Dot's cancer storyline will be a barrel of laughs...

Doesn't Kareena go away for two months soon and come back as, shock horror, a "sex kitten"? It does amuse me when they do that with characters for no logical reason whatsoever other than to make them more interesting.
As it happens I don't actually mind her or Ash, but the other 3 really can fuck off...

People who need to be CULLED-
Drippy Kate
ALL the Ferreiras (minus perhaps the girl- we'll see how her "makeover" goes first)
Lyn Slater (they are doing that anyway)
Spencer Moon
Gus' brother
Less concentration on the Watts, none of whom can really act and less Kat and Alfie too- both are good, but OVERLOAD
Develop Martin and Sonia as a HAPPY couple
Get rid of all this gangster shit, Sam Mitchell is about as hard as custard for STARTERS
Use the actors/ actresses who CAN act a bit more- Patrick and Yolande, Dot and Jim, Pat, Zoe Slater and her pikey friend, would have said Natalie if she hadnt have just left twice in a month, even IAN for fucks sake, who hasnt done anything for about 2 years. Billy Mitchell
Bring back a couple of big names if they can get em, even if its just for a short while (Ross Kemp maybe ?)
Oh to have a "Cindy back from the dead" story....Obviously wont happen (especially so soon after Den) but still...

I really hope EastEnders goes on the steady decline. It's gotten too high and mighty, they think they're "untouchable", but it needs crap viewing figures to give it a kick up the arse!
I love the show, it's had some legendary characters and stories over the past 19 years, but something needs to be done. Axing half the cast would be a good start, and getting back to the interesting, quick paced storylines.
Who cares about Spencer and Kelly?! Who cares about Den's secret phonecalls?! Who cares whether the Ferreiras lose their home - to be honest I'd be dancing in the street to see them all killed off!
Somewhere along the line something went badly wrong, I just hope it can be mended again!

By the way, I didn't mean Kat and Alfie were dull, they're just not being used properly and they do seem to give these two-handers out FAR more often now and for pretty crap reasons, whereas before it was only when something major happened.
I mean I HATE Phil Mitchell, but the Phil/Grant two-hander was ace simply because it was a big thing at the time. Likewise Dot and Ethel - one of the best episodes ever.

Frankly YES ! They were never the show's high point, but at least you (albeit VAGUELY) gave a shit about them
Its all just so uncredible. Like the whole Michelle coming back thing- NO ONE will replace Susan Tully as Michelle, she was far too important and central a character- she still gets mentioned once a week. Replacing her will NOT work...

Remember when Gita went missing and Sanjay was accused of doing away with her or something?! And then she just suddenly came back! :D And they had that child, Chinchilla, and the sister Meena just seemed to be in it everytime Sanjay fancied shagging something nice i.e. NOT Gita!

And replacing Michelle is the worst idea EVER, I agree.
There's not even any need for her to return, it's just another hopeless attempt at boosting the ratings again :manson:

I agree with all of those except Ian. When I used to watch the show properly, years ago, he was the one thing that ALWAYS, without fail, made me want to switch off. The man is such an unattractive specimen (generally speaking, not just physically) that he really doesn't work for me... I'd prefer more Pauline than more Ian...
I miss the Kapoors too....

Why, because everyone has to be attractive and appealing ?

He is SUPPOSED to be wholly unattractive, slimy, unlikeable, VILE

My POINT is the character is UNATTRACTIVE in that he doesn't attract me to the programme in any shape or form. He's an OK actor, but there's something just cringeworthy about everything that involves Ian in the programme, particularly when he cries all the time..... euuugh....
There's unlikeable characters that make you wanna watch a programme (e.g. Janine)... there's unlikeable characters that are a complete turn-off and bore (e.g. Ian). For ME anyway...

Things just get worse and worse!
'EastEnders' sinks to new all-time low
14:37 BST, Wednesday 7th July 2004 -- by Neil Wilkes
Another hour-long Emmerdale special pushed EastEnders to a new all-time ratings low last night.
The BBC soap averaged just 6.3 million and a 34.6% share of the audience at 7.30pm, its lowest ever recorded figure. Ratings peaked with a dismal 6.9 million (36.9%) halfway through.
The news is a further blow for the show, which is going through one of the toughest periods in its nineteen-year history.
Recently ITV made no secret of its desire to oust EastEnders as the number two UK soap (behind Coronation Street) and replace it with Emmerdale, which typically averages 10 million viewers.

Those ratings were the first thing I looked for today :shy:. Though I despise the show now, they always make those ratings situations look worse than they are. It was quite a big Emmerdale episode and of course soap audiences will go down when they clash, usually a lot of people watch both.
Still, great for Emmerdale anyway and they did actually hold more viewers in the 2nd half. I've totally given up on EE now except for the odd episode here and there. I just wish Emmerdale beat it nearly all the time ;). Maybe in the not too distant future they will..
And I know this is petty, but what really pisses me off is how they STILL always seem to be on the cover of TV magazines with any old shite. Go in any newsagent this week and you'll find nothing but mags with Den and Kate on the front - I mean who gives a fuck? That storyline is even less interesting than any of this Andy business.
