Preaching to the converted I know, but it just seems to get better with age - I bought it on tape first around 1993-4, and back then it sounded old and dated. But after buying it on CD about a year or so ago, I listened to it many times, and it's FABULOUS. Defintely the second beset GH collection after Abba Gold.

Sooo many classics, Holiday, Like A Virgin, Material Girl, Cherish, La Isla Bonita, Borderline, etc. But the real standout classics are Vogue (which I've always liked), and Like A Prayer (which is certainly up there with the best of Abba's songs).

Let's have an 80's Madonna revival!!! Her 90's stuff is good in places, but it doesn't realy compare to the out and out pop of the Immaculate Collection.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, she should be FORCED to listen to this on repeat to remind her that she used to make GOOD songs... :smoke:

Ah, such crystal clear QSound CLARITY

"Like A Prayer" is just BEAUTIFUL on that cd. The way the choir SOARS...

*sighs*

And lest we not forget that REALLY "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me" began the trend of releasing a GH album with a couple of new songs on, something she then oddly gave up when she did "GHV2"...

It's spine-tingling, especially listening on headphones, truly a mark of a gem.

Only bought it in late 2001, believe it or not. I was put off getting it for a long time by the fact a lot of (if not all?) tracks were remixed and reworked, but I don't mind the result. In this era of repackaging, reissuing and recycling, one could do with a remastered version though!

I dont think it requires remastering as such, but a PROPER GH with the original 7" versions on it might be nice.

All the remixes are quite subtle- the only REAL difference is on "Holiday", "ITG" and "LAP" Id say. The rest are more "edits" than actual remixes...

I ADORE the IC mix of Like A Prayer. It incorporates all the best elements of the live Blonde Ambition version. The most spunkworthy live performance of the most spunkworthy song. Excuse me...

Surprised you missed out "Express Yourself", which is quite a drastic change from the album version!

I love it too. I love the original as well, but the IC version wins JUST, probably because of the sound quality compared to the LAP album- amazing to think that was just one year before

(thanks for the text by the way ! Remember- if you're out, do let e know- I owe ya a pint !)

And sorry- "Express Yourself" as well- I knew there was another one Id missed !!!!

*bump*

Heathens, the lot of you! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats the majestic original album version of "Like a Prayer." I had to get this off my chest. Spunktastic Shep mix on Immaculate? Absolutely, but nowhere near the original.

Also - "Cherish" is fooking class.

And finally, it is the best greatest hits ever and I don't care who knows it. Q sound is shite though.

All the songs are a solid 9 or 10/10, except for "Crazy for You" and "Lucky Star," and they're 8/10 for me anyway.

I still wish the album had the original versions of Holiday and especially Into The Groove - the latter being in my top 5 songs of all time and, for me at least, being an inferior and unnecessary remix of a brilliant song.

I thought it was mildly amusing that the album was given a lukewarm reception at Record Mirror, the general complaint from the reviewer being about the "tinny" sound quality, the remixing of songs and also that the echo on Madonna's voice on many of the songs made it sound like she'd recorded her vocals in the bathroom!

Mind you it was the same reviewer who'd nearly keeled over in shock earlier that year when he's heard the Dick Tracey soundtrack...

they should have left off Rescue Me and added Who's That Girl since it WAS a #1 song

at least it got added to The Holiday Collection:nun:
