Hi geeks, i need your help.

I want a new laptop. My current one is over 4 years old and is considering retirement. It's very slow now and crashes a fair bit. So, i'd like some pointers to help me buy a new one

This is where i am at the moment:

I only need it for internet, photos and listening to music. So I don't anything else fancy on top of the basics.

My sister has a netbook which is nice because it's compact but i think i'd find the screen too small after a while for internet browsing. Plus i don't think i'd take it around with me that much. Any comments on netbooks welcome though as i haven't ruled it out.

Not sure what my budget should be, but i don't want to go budget for the sake of it whilst not wanting to spend more than i have to.

Comments and suggestions?

FANKS.

I've been using a netbook since about March last year for internet browsing, and the screen being too small really isn't an issue. And I was used to a widescreen laptop before this one!

Don't you find you're scrolling loads more than with a laptop?

Yes, but I really wouldn't say LOADS more. And I still use laptops in work, so I think I'd notice if it was really bugging me.

One thing I would say though is aren't netbooks relatively expensive compared to standard laptops, in terms of what you get? I just wonder if the portability of a netbook (which obviously is usually a major selling point) isn't a real benefit for you, perhaps a standard laptop may give you better value for money anyway?

Failing that, try a nice diddy 13.3" screen

I wouldn't go for any netbook below 10" screen.

I briefly had a netbook and it was THIS that I found this single most annoying factor. They are good though, but considering how expensive many are, you can probably get a cheapish laptop for the same price.
