Same drill as the sitcoms.... nominate the SEVEN soap operas you would like including in the final list.
- Soaps can be from any country
- They do not have to still be on air
think thats it but feel free to ask if you need any clarification!
NOMINATIONS IN THE THREAD PLEASE

SEVEN?
Ooooh, Holby counts as a soap right?

SEVEN?
I know, I was going for five first as there are less soaps than there are sitcoms potentially, but it'll make people a bit more selective

Yes.... this is where the difficulties might lie, I would say essentially that to be a soap it needs to have a significant number of episodes in a year, so 20 episodes of waterloo road would allow it but Doc Martin having six episodes it definitely wouldn't.
DO WE DO IT IN HERE OR BY PM?

I really can't think of anymore to vote for, actually the only soap that I actively watched was Knots Landing the rest were bits and pieces.
No-one will remember MY favourite - I can never even find any info on Google about it, but I'm voting for it anyway because it was my favourite soap opera by a CONSIDERABLE distance:
London Bridge
Home & Away
Emmerdale
Coronation Street
Brookside
Family Affairs
Desperate Housewives if it counts?

Yes that one. But you can never find out much information about it really :( I used to be a properly huge fan and record every single episode :D :D It was a genuinely well made soap and it's production values were clearly much better than any of the other UK soaps - they clearly spent some money on it but only Carlton showed the 2nd series (when it went twice a week) and I guess it was impossible to market it properly to such a small part of the population, when it couldn't really have any articles about it in the TV mags as most of the UK couldn't see it.
London Bridge? I used to watch that :D
You could only have watched the late night 1st series, which was 13 episodes long. After that it moved to two nights a week at 6:30pm and was brilliant. :( It lasted about 3 years and I was gutted when it ended!
Gosh it was 20 years ago Sunetra Sarker was in Brookie :o

It wasn;'t! She was in London Bridge before she was in Brookie - and she was in London Bridge from 1998 I think...

It got better in the later years to be fair...
Oh it seems she must have done 1 episode of Brookie in the 80s according to imdb but they've completely omitted her main character after she was in London bridge.

yeah, Wikipedia have her as;

Brookside Nisha Batra 1988-1990, 2000-2003
London Bridge Jyoti Solanki 1995
Cold Feet Clare 1999
Playing the Field Dr Meera 2000
Doctors Donna Sykes 2003
Emmerdale Priti Chowdry 2003
The Smoking Room Monique 2004
Holby City Nanda Veer 2004
No Angels Anji Mittel 2004-2006
New Street Law Nita Shibani 2006
The Chase Clare Burns 2006-2007
Mobile DI Lorraine Conil 2007
Casualty Dr. Zoe Hanna 2007-present
Oh so she played the SAME character on two occasions 10 years apart? I didn't realise that!! :o You were right then sorry!!
They've got all the years wrong for London bridge... :shy: It ran from 1996-1999 and Sarker was in it from 1998-1999 I believe (Jyoti was one of my favourite characters :black: ) - I really want to go in and correct everything... :D

What's the definition of Saop that you're using? because i wouldn't class Waterloo Road as a soap until it's an all year round thing.

Not a soap but soapy, I said I'd accept it as it does have a significant run each year
