I REMEMBER that Xmas ident...
As a kid, did you think it was amazing, or were you old enough to appreciate how shit it looks?

I wonder whether China won the Circus World Championships.
Or how on earth they judged it.

1987 Top Of The Pops is fucking ACE. I was looking up some old TOTP chart countdowns on youtube the other day, extremely addictive.
All in all that looks like a great line-up - with the execrable exception of Russ Abbot.

I was slightly concerned I'd get nostalgic for The Russ Abbot Show watching that clip. I needn't have worried.

Wasn't Russ Abbot responsible for introducing Les Dennis to primetime TV? And therefore arguably Amanda Holden as well?
WHAT A CUNT.

There's oddly a nice Mexican restaurant in Greenwich that plays this song an oddly high amount (i.e. more than never at all)
Can't remember anything serious apppening on Xmas Day News in 1987. Now Xmas 1989 on the other hand with Nicolae Ceauşescu of Romania being shot by firing squad is a different matter altogether (although I think we didn't hear about it until Boxing Day - his body was shown on the lunchtime news, but edited out in the evening news).

It's funny but I don't remember that and I was 13. This is probably because I live in Scotland and we are insatiable flag wavers at new year so we probably had our own BBC Scotland schedule and idents.
