God, im really starting to go crazy.
Ive got an ipod touch and I wanted to make a 'recently added' playlist, cos Ive missed having that. I figured Id just make a smart playlist, so i made one which basically says match the rule 'date added is in last 60 days' and then 'limited to 40 items selected by most recently added'. And ive ticked live updating, so hopefully itll always reflect the last 40 songs ive put on.
Now heres wahts really getting me pissed off, in itunes, the playlist works fine- I mean when i plug in my ipod and select the playlist, the songs show up fine and its all correct in itunes.
On my ipod however, the 40 songs that appear arent the most recently added, although they are in chronological order. (what i mean is, the songs would be right if this was ovtober 2009, but, its not). And rhey never change even when i add more, yet they always are correct on ituens when viewing the playlist that way.
Ive tried everything to sort this out but cant get it right, help me :(

This is a common issue I'm afraid dear, but here's a top tip. Make sure "Media Kind = Music" is always the top option in your music playlists. It seems bleeding obvious but not having this does cause some odd behaviour. Trying making any recalcitrant playlists again with that as a condition and see how you go.

I manually sync all my stuff, cos I hated it when everything you had on itunes went onto your ipod too, sometimes i dont want everything on both. Does this make a difference? I dont understand why it doesnt work, im not making an incredibly complex playlist, just want the 40 most recently added songs.
I tried your suggestion christian, didnt make any difference :(

Try unchecking the "live updating" option for the playlist as a short term fix - that will transfer the playlist across properly, though you have to remember to check and uncheck the box every time you want to update which is crap.
Manual vs auto sync shouldn't make any difference.

Yes, that worked!
why on earth would something so simple as live updating screw up the playlist thought? i cant actually believe the all powerful ipod cant even handle that. so pissed off, and yes itll be a pain in the arse unchecking that box every time haha. thanks for sorting it out in the short term for me christian! Have a hug and a cooke.

We really MUST start that moopy WORD OF THE DAY thread.
Although we need to get everyone spelling definite, bizarre and blatant correctly first.

Now now Deli :D
A new iTunes update was released today (9.0.3) which specifically promises to "address problems with syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts". About dribbling time and all that but hopefully this will be the answer to our (iPod specific) prayers.
I haven't given it a go myself yet mind...

I was hurt Christian :(
I started downloading the update last night and something happened halfway through, which stopped it. Then when I tried to open iTunes again it wouldn't let me and I couldn't download the upload. It appears there was a problem with Quicktime but I couldn't delete the Quicktime folder because it said I didn't have permission to do so (!).
Anyway, in the end it is all sorted but I hope this isn't a problem with the update as it took me a while to figure out and I was VERY SCARED I'd lose all my music (which is in the UK).
