I have seen the light with McAfee and uninstalled it, but I need something else to use in its place. I did have Avast but it was on a 30 day trial. Is there anything free that is very good?
Thanks techno geeks x

hmm. this is the one i downloaded before, but it said it was only on a 30 day trial
will it carry on working beyond 30 days or will it explode and the world as we know it will be over?

I don't know why they want dosh for it - have you gone for the Internet Security or just the Antivirus? I've had the antivirus for years now and they've never wanted money, are you sure it wasn't just the registering thing where if you don't activate it for 30 days it gets wiped?

It costs money to renew it and it's like an East German border guard.

I've got mine for free for some reason. What's the East German border analogy all about (in terms of my PC security). My history knowledge is rubbish.
Avast is very popular in tests and is free
I use AVG myself like Kate, never had any problems with it

mcafee installed some new updates last week jonfessions, and it took THREE MINUTES to switch from window to window
i would have been better off trying to access moopy via a stick and a CAVE WALL, so i got rid
updating AVG is really easy and doesn't put your computer in a temporary coma

EXCEPT - and this is where i need your help moopy - i can't get rid of mcafee
i keep using this tool to remove it from my computer completely, which asks me to restart at the end. so i restart, then the ocmputer freezes, and asks me to do a system restore to a point when i had mcafee, and before you know it i am stuck in a catch 22 situation
WHAT CAN I DO, PLOISE HELP

There used to be a wall (the Berlin Wall) separating East and West Germany and the East side had nasty border guards who were there to stop the "easties" getting out. Zone Alarm (a firewall program) used to be like a German border guard in that it wouldn't let anything in or out of my computer. Before your time Jonfessions love! :D

I think I have fixed my problem. I had to log on in safe mode and take mcafee off, then I had a nap while it did its shit and SO FAR so good

I should have mentioned that I know about the Berlin wall. :D:D
But thanks for the explanation; I did not know about the nasty guards. :o

I wasn't being patronising about the wall but I realised that you might not even have been born yet when they took it down. Office lad is 23 and he didn't know what the Berlin Wall was. You're probably more intelligent than he is though.

I used to use AVG Free then moved on to Avira AntiVir (also free) and now use Microsoft Security Essentials
http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
It seems to work as well as the others and for a Microsoft product actually gets good reviews.

I was born in Oct 86, so a good three years before it came down.
I don't remember hearing about it at the time. I was more interested in dinosaurs and Fireman Sam.

But dear, you SOLVED my iPod problem (see thread below) :disco:
I was gonna send you a thank you message on your Facebook wall but here will do :sup:
Hidden files was slightly tricky with the QJRX folders, so I just pasted all that shyt to a big new music folder. iTunes is a minefield.
I need glasses now for PC use and everyday use really, I've fucked my eyes. :( Facebook is the absolute WORST. Thank god I don't go on much there.
