Britney will now officially release a double CD 'Hits' package on November 16th this will end her 5 album deal with Jive Records.
I take it she is moving labels

Good news - but 2cd?
Sheena

Must be mixes etc, there is no way she could fill 2cds yet

And why is she moving labels? Has she had some sort of creative clash with Jive, or is she just doing a Madonna and starting her own label?

Jive signed her to a five album deal whether she signs another deal with Jive i don't know but this is the end of the current contract.

So that will mean that "outrageous" is the last single from ITZ, as she has to have an all-new single. So probably no "breathe on me" on the GH

I dont see why she would move labels...i know JIVE wouldnt want to get rid of her anyway.
Also im waiting on a NSYNC greatest hits because JIVE have them contracted for at least 2 more albums. But since its NSYNC im sure itll be more of an EP than a LP

Maybe she'll RETIRE!

Britney isn't in the position to start her own label. Don't make me laugh!
Anyway, it would be a wise decision to move away from Jive for creative reasons, but promotion-wise they were handling her pretty well as she was cash-cow number 1.
A bit too early for a compilation anyway.. and obviously the kiss of death for In the Zone which has already run its course but I still want "Breathe on Me."

Oh, I think a GH after four albums is just about right, really...

How is she not in the position to start her own label? She has enough money to pay someone to set one up for her, and given that she's written more and more of the album with each subsequent release, a lot of the money would be going straight back to her.
Plus, she would only have to tour when she wanted, because we all know she hates touring really.

I realise that, but I was hoping there was more life to In the Zone yet. A compilation effectively means the album officially has run its course.

There is NO way "ITZ" has run its course- it has plenty of life left in it. The fact it has not left the chart since well before "Toxic" came out proves that, in both the UK AND the US.

Well that's essentially what I'm saying. Vanity record labels are ultimately pointless. Just because an artist has enough money doesn't mean they have the business savvy to have their own record label.
The only exception here being Madonna's Maverick, and even that turned into a trainwreck despite La Ciccone's infamous reputation as the most ruthless businesswoman in pop music.

Yes, but a compilation for November effectively means that the album is over and out with, doesn't it?

I think with her knee "injury" effecitvely, the album has run its course because I can't see her being able to film and release another 2 videos after Outrageous and before Novemeber.

I think that's a stupid excuse. She could always have videos in which she's sitting or an animated one...

Well I think she should've waited until after the 5th album, but then if she does change labels and/or musical direction with that one, it might well be a good idea to have a GH after ITZ, to mark the end of that era I suppose.
The only annoyance is that ITZ had so much potential left..."Breathe On Me" HAD to be released. They could've carried on promoting ITZ and released the GH next year instead. I guess there's still hope we might get it though...
If it's a double CD, I imagine all the songs Sheena listed will be there, plus the "Overprotected" remix that was released in America with a video. Maybe the original "Boys", too. And maybe half those commercial/soundtrack songs she's done. "Before The Goodbye" would be an excellent to add on as well, being her best album track...

What's happening with Maverick these days? They can't be making much money, what with Madonna & Alanis Morissette's albums both posting distinctly underwhelming figures, and Michelle Branch's career seemingly faltering.
I do remember reading an Article about Branch's sales figures though, and being pleasently surprised. 'Hotel Paper' only did a little less than 'The Spirit Room' despite disappearing from the charts fairly quickly. It must have had really good sales for its first few weeks. Still, the second and third singles from that album did very poorly, and I think she'll need something great to pull it together now, and I'm not convinced she has it in her.

Britney has always seemed to ignore the best album tracks, so it shouldn't really surprise many people that 'Breathe On May' isn't being released.

Am I the only one who thinks that she doesnt have enough hits? I mean she's hardly gonna put ''I Love rocknroll'' on her GH, is she?
I know she's done 4 albums, but the time just doesn't seem right for this at all......

14 UK Top 10 hits, 5 #1s - most artists would kill for that

Madonna has nothing to do with Maverick anymore. Warner bought her share for an undisclosed sum about two weeks ago, I think.
Maverick started out really well with Alanis, The Prodigy and Madonna herself, but it's been diminishing returns for quite a while. The label still exists, and Guy Oseary (Madonna's partner in the venture) will still be in charge, but Madge has zip to do with it now. Rumours say that she had been meaning to get rid of it for quite some time and the dispute was over the exact sum she wanted from Warner, but that's been settled now.

Surely they'll wheel her into the studio at some point, since she's got fuck all to do for the next 2 months....

She's already been in and out of the studio doing bits for the past few months, so either they are planning on a 5th release soon after, or the Greatest Hits will have several new tracks.

Maybe it will be like Jacko's "History" package - disc of old, disc of new. But I hope not. I like my greatest hits albums to be exactly that - any more than 2-3 new songs and my hackles rise somewhat.

i suppose they want to strike whilst the iron is hot off the back of Toxic etc, but they should most definitely let this album run its course, and wait till early autumn 2005 to release a hits package with 2 new tracks!
However, if I were britney, id release outrageous (reluctantly) THEN have a double A side of Breathe on me and Boom Boom (which would be a HUGE hit) before taking a break to record a followup album! This album would have at least 3 big hits from it (one pop TUNE written by Cathy Dennis, one club track - which would be a duet with Beyonce - and a epic power ballad)
THEN id release the greatest hits:
Baby one more time
Sometimes
You drive me crazy
Born to make you happy (swap for from the bottom of my broken heart in the US)
Oops I did it again
Lucky
Stronger
Im a slave for you
Overprotected (original version ONLY)
Im not a girl, not yet a woman
Boys (single version)
Me against the music
Toxic
Everytime
Outrageous
Breathe on me
Ive got that boom boom
Duet with Beyonce
Cathy dennis pop TUNE
Epic Power ballad
20 tracks, no top10 MISSES (i.e. dont let me be the last to know and i love rock n roll) and no filler!
A DVD of ALL her music videos (including the dodgy overprotected remix and both top10 MISSES) will accompany the hits package!

I think I'd like the Greatest Hits to have 'From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart' on it, even though it wasn't released here. My issue with the Greatest Hits is not the content, I'd quite happily settle for all her singles here, plus FTBOMBH and perhaps 'Anticipating' and maybe the 'Overprotected' remix (although it seems slightly pointless having both versions when they aren't completely different, only the backing track basically), but the fact that it's so soon when ITZ has so much more potential.
