New "low-life" family join 'EastEnders'
11:37 BST, Monday 19th July 2004 -- by Neil Wilkes

EastEnders producers are bringing in a new controversial family to try and boost flagging ratings, The Sun claims today.

The new clan are related to wheeler-dealer Mickey Miller (Joe Swash) and are said to be so "low-life" that they "make the Slaters look like royalty."

Among those moving into the Square are Mickey's mum, dad and younger brother, as well as his 13-year-old sister, who is seven months pregnant.

"They are a real bunch of scruffs," a source told the newspaper. "They arrive with a flea-bitten Irish wolfhound in a battered old ice cream van driven by Mickey. The first out of the van is the pregnant 13-year-old and within minutes she is the talk of the Queen Vic."

The Millers will be seen on screens from September.

Like we need ANOTHER pregnant 13 year old in a soap!

At least it's fresh blood.

But WHY must a family arrive with a bunch of "issues" all the time? I bet they get a bunch of "sensational" storylines before the year's out about their murky past and we don't actually give a shit about it because they're too new..

Ha - another new family.

let's hope they're better than those Ferreira bores. I mean WHAT ON EARTH were they thinking introducing such a dull family?

Because when they brought in a family WITHOUT issues (the Di Marcos and the Ferreiras spring to mind) the viewers don't have anything TO relate to them about and they end up being unpopular characters. When they brought in a family and gave them big storylines straight away (the Slaters), they became the most popular new soap family for YEARS (as much as I hate ALL OF THEM except Big Mo)

Err, the Slaters arrived in August 2000 and didn't start having big storylines until over a YEAR later. We got time to know them first - most of their issues weren't revealed until late 2001, just hinted at. They were built up PERFECTLY, not rushed in and suddenly started hogging all the screentime...

Families do NOT need to be introduced like this as it's hard to care if we don't know them - Shirley the neighbour anyone? If the writing's good and the characters are likeable and made to fit into the show, then that's all you need to start with, the big storylines should come later when we care more about them. Big stories should fit with the characters and develop as well rather than just have an instant impact for the sake of it. Bringing them in like this (she'll give birth within two months of arriving!) is utterly needless and we won't give a flying cunt, plus it will just seem like it's there for shock factor and them trying too hard to make them popular. So unless it's written and acted to PERFECTION (unlikely given EE's recent form), this whole thing seems so daft..

Well if they'd cast a woman who could actually ACT, it may've helped.

And Cwej... how can you LIKE Big Mo?! She's appallingly crap!

Have the Ferreira family been sacked yet? I'd welcome the new scumbag family just so long as those Ferreira dullards get the boot - they are so shit!

Well yeah, though I didn't mind her personally..

The only two half-decent Ferreiras are Kareena and Ash imo, the other 3 are just pointless. Mostly the writers' fault...I feel sorry for them all really because they get so much stick when the blame isn't theirs...

I am greatly disturbed by Kat of late. Since she got married to Alfie, she's looking more and more like that old bint Pat Butcher. It's distressing. I wish she'd stop wearing all them big coats with the fur...

They should be doing more than this. Why stay in Albert Square? Move to another part of the Eastend and focus the camera in on the residents there; a sort of "Family Affairs"-esque 'let's kill off all the characters' scenario

Yes, I'm sure this is something they'd seriously consider. Apart from the fact that EastEnders is as much about Albert Square as Coronation Street is about Coronation Street, there's the small issue of having to build a completely new set and come up with a whole new cast :manson:

Sadly, not only does my sarcastic voice sound a lot like my normal voice in real life, but my sarcastic typing looks an awful lot like my serious typing. I'm thinking I'll need to get some functions

Revenge is sweet for Chrissie :D
--------------------------------------

DIRTY Den’s fuming missus is to take revenge on his mistress — by cutting off her rival’s HAIR.

Chrissie Watts whips out her scissors when she discovers that so-called best pal Kate Mitchell is romping with her hubby.

The hairdresser (Tracy-Ann Oberman) rumbles their affair in EastEnders when she discovers a sneaky text message from Kate (Jill Halfpenny) to Den (Leslie Grantham).

But instead of collapsing in tears, she proves that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned when she lures Kate into having her locks trimmed.

Chrissie is a stylist at Kate’s beauty salon Sophistikates and offers to give Kate a trim.

But once Kate is in the hot seat, Chrissie hacks off the lot — before they end up in a massive brawl. Pretty Jill, 29, really did have to cut off her own hair for filming.

A show insider said: “Chrissie is burning with anger, but she doesn’t want to break down in tears.

“The first Kate knows of her dastardly plan it is when Chrissie hacks off all her hair. They have a huge fight and Den has to split them up.”

A source said: “Jill loved getting stuck in — and her hair is growing back.”

The episode will be shown on Friday, July 30.
