I wouldn't get your hopes up!

Our swimming team this time was supposed to be the most prepared team going into the Olympics EVER! And as usual they've failed big stylee!

Didn't they say that for Sydney?! And then were really shocked when we did really appallingly?!

No wonder Britain are shite at sport. Local councils are selling off our school playing fields to build housing estates, the government is trying to ban sports day because it's "unfair" on the kids who perform badly and most kids nowerdays would rather sit on their arses playing computer games rather than going outside to play sport.

I've heard that Australian guy we've got saying he's not expecting any medals at all!

But when Mel Marshall who's the fastest woman in the 200m freestyle in the world this year finished LAST in her semi-final it really says it all!

Aren't the stadiums looking empty. For christ's sake it's the final of the mens team competition in the gymnastics and there's a MASS of empty seats! Can't see these games making much of a profit, if at all.

They messed up with the tickets, Geoff was telling me at work today, he said something like they forgot to sell them or they were unavailable and they've been letting people in free to fill up the stadiums. And Paula-running-lady-whose-surname-I-forget should win something...

SDF

Don't the games always pick up in the second week anyway? I seem to watch a lot more in the second week, its much more exciting.

Oh and Slave its Paula Radcliffe! ;)

How can you FORGET to sell tickets for an OLYMPIC GAMES? Way to go Athens! :D

Slave

Ok maybe people just forgot to go:

The Olympics came home to Greece at the weekend but nobody was in. Three days into the 28th modern Olympiad, officials in Athens are under pressure from the International Olympic Committee to paper the city with free tickets if necessary to solve the growing crisis of low turn-outs.

Broadcasters cringed as television audiences around the world saw tennis, weightlifting, hockey and gymnastics played out in half-empty stadiums.

Even last night's main attraction - the clash of the two young Titans of the pool, Ian Thorpe and Michael Phelps - failed to sell out as Athenians declined to buy into the rhetoric of the great Olympic homecoming.

Many have supported a more modern Greek tradition by fleeing to the holiday islands.

The organisers will open 35 new ticket booths in an attempt to bring sales of 2.9 million closer to the target of five million.

And thanks SDF, the only Paula's I could think of were Yates and Abdul and I knew neither of them were runners.

this isn't the thread, but i want to moan... what the bloody hell was going on with the 3m synchronized diving this evening?! The GREEKS got gold and the Brits came 5th after some VERY dodgy marking, one foul dive from the Chinese and two missed dives from Russians and the Americans... DODGY is not the word...

Slave

The swimming pool isn't our friend this year after that woman jumped into the pool and landed on a camera.

God YES!
The japanese judge seemed particularly dodgy with some extremely wayward marks. They gave 7.5 to the dutch guys who clipped the board, and 4.0 to another pair whose dive was much better!!
Some scores ranged from 0.5 to 7.0 and another set from 4.5 to 8.5 or something!! What the chuff?!?! *shakes head*

You know. I'm annoyed that not all events are sold out...the shooting thing only had like 30 people watching in a stadium which could hold 10000 people. The Greeks really don't seem to care. Can't believe the gymnastics hall isn't sold out. During the racing track hardly anyone was standing on the side of the course.

Er, the sailing? Three of our regattas are currently in gold medal position.

And fingers cross for our Paula!
