    8. caught a lite sneeze - Boys for pele

Rent your wife and kids today, maybe she will, maybe she will

I LOVE her voice on this, again almost breathing her way through the song rather than singing it in parts. I KNEW it wouldn't sell, though it turned out to be amongst the most commercial offerings BFP had.

    7. Jackies Strength - from the choirgirl hotel

    You're only popular with anorexia

LUSH, not a lot more to be said, after the sparsity of BFP, much as I loved it, it was good to hear Tori back to doing something a bit more fulsome. this is just BEAUTIFUL from start to finish, not a lot more to be said really

    6. Northern lad - From the Choirgirl hotel

I guess you go too far when Pianos try to be guitars

This can really GET me on an emotional level if I'm feeling a little bit down, I feel like I'm running out of things to say in the commentaries at this stage because it all goes alongs the lines of it being a beautiful song and whatnot, but this really IS a song that will always register highly in this list, and at times would probably be number one.

She seems to have moved away from more commerical outings which is fine as she stuill delivers the goods, I'd just like to hear what else she could come up with

No Venus loving - I adore every second on that album. I do love her electro stuff. Still great quality throughtout and 'Damage' in particular is amazing.

Can't wait to see your top 5.

    5. Winter - Little Earthquakes

I run off where the drifts get deeper, sleeping Beauty, trips me with a frown

EPIC, again pretty straightforward for Tori but an immediate favourite from LE and its never really dropped in my affections since. Another that just builds and builds to a soaring climax in a manner that Tori has honed to a TEE.
Again her voice excels on this, wringiong emotion from every nuance though never sounding affected like so many would.

    4. talula - Boys for pele

I got my rape hat on honey but I always could accessorise

and another that hit me immediately on first listen. Ameraal mentioned earlier that he loved it when she moved away from Piano and generally I do too, it adds another layer to her music which only ever accentuates, the TVAB unappreciation isn;t a dislike as such, its just never clicked with me, thats not to say it never will, some of her songs have lain unnappreciated for a while before they finally make sense to me and I see them for the classic that they are.
But anyway yes, this would NEVER have worked with just a piano, as it is its amazing

    3. Space dog -Under the Pink

Deck the halls, I'm young again, I'm you again, racing turtles the grapefruit is winning, seems I keep getting this story, twisted, so wheres Neil when you need him, deck the halls its you again, its you again, somewhere someone must know the ending, is she still, pissing in the river now? heard she'd gone, moved into the trailer park.

I suspect a lot will view this as an odd choice to go so high but it was seriously considered for the number one position. Lyrically amongst my favourites and musically just SO different. I have a certain fondness for Toris overlaying of vocals, which may be a clue as to what's coming next.

    2. Father Lucifer - Boys for pele

Its ALL about the second half of this, The overlapping vocals hwere you can't quite tell what shes singing and yet know EXACTLY what shes saying, I know the section itself isn't long but those 20 seconds are quite POSSIBLY my favourite moment of msuic ANYWHERE, gets me everytime.
The voice again, frailer, almost breathing the lyrics at times adds for me, to the intensity of what is generally speaking a simple song.

    1. these precious things - Little earthquakes

They said you're really an ugly girl, but i like the way you, play

I wanna smash the faces of those beautiful boys, those Christian boys, so you can make me cum, it doesn't make you Je-ee-sus

As close to perfect as you can get. powerful, emotionally wrought, lyrically amongst the most powerful shes ever done. Not a lot more I can say about it...

and erm, thats it, a list possibly not to everyones tastes but i think Tri appeals to so many people in so many different ways there'll always be a disparity between the likings of one person and the net.

Your top 5 was rather pleasing actually - far less obvious than I initially expected.

"Winter" is as a natural favourite and would feature consistently in my top 2 Tori tracks. "Precious Things" is also difficult to fault.

"Father Lucifer" and "Space Dog" are the major shocks though, especially the latter. Maybe I need to revisit it to see why it rates so highly for you.

Space Dog is fantastic - complete contrast between the piano and the kick ass part. The kooky lyrics about grapefruits, pissing and Colonel Dirtyfishydishcloth and those great BVs...

    Weird but oh so appealing!

Quite a wonderful top 10 there ! "Space Dog" is one of the few reasons I would give Under The Pink a spin. The only song I can't help but disagree with is "Talua". Remixed or not, it always felt like nothing but a cheering-up track for Pele and for me, the lowlight of the album.

The last three tracks on Under the Pink are glorious. Cloud on my Tongue, Space Dog and Yes, Anastasia. Possibly the best ending to an album EVER. Shame the start is so PATCHY
