    100. SHAKIN' STEVENS (2.077)

    99. PAUL McCARTNEY (2.097)

    98. CLIFF RICHARD (2.226)

    97. STATUS QUO (2.345)

    96. PERRY COMO (2.409)

    95. JAMES LAST (2.773)

    94. BARRY MANILOW (2.8)

    93. WET WET WET (2.87)

    92. UB40 (2.968)

    91. ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK (3.037)

Unsurprisingly there are a few oldies in the bottom section of the chart. It's also an all-male start, with Shaky in the unfortunate position of being at the bottom of this chart and the original list. Cliff Richard is the artist with the biggest difference from his original position, some 96 places he drops! Oh, and James Last is officially more popluar than Sir Paul McCartney!

Looking at this ten, you could be forgiven for thinking it was a rundown of the ugliest artists of all-time! There's still no females anywhere in sight, and a few of these are too low for my liking but still.

    Brian Ferry is FABULOUS

I've got a great CD by him where he takes an wildly varied selection of classic songs and makes them all sound EXACTLY the same

Chilled-out versions of `I Put A Spell On You' and `Rescue Me' are WHERE IT'S AT

I quite like the 80s stuff and some of the tracks on 'Stars', but everything after that was pure shit. Fucking Capital FM in '95 and their unhealthy obsession with 'Fairground'

I've heard his version of 'Will you still love me tomorrow'. I have to say it didn't inspire me to buy the album.

Oh and I like Simply Red too. Mostly their eighties and early nineties stuff, but 'Home' was a great return to form.

    80. SLADE (4.036)

    79. SIMPLE MINDS (4.1)

    78. THE EAGLES (4.1)

    77. GENESIS (4.2)

    76. THE EVERLY BROTHERS (4.25)

    75. HOT CHOCOLATE (4.25)

    74. DIRE STRAITS (4.3)

    73. BON JOVI (4.484)

    72. THE HOLLIES (4.577)

    71. MEAT LOAF (4.6)

Bon Jovi are about 70 places too LOW!!! Aside from that, seventies bands feature quite heavily in this segment. Still no ladies!

    70. STING (4.677)

    69. ROY ORBISON (4.7)

    68. SHIRLEY BASSEY (4.759)

    67. BUDDY HOLLY (4.786)

    66. ANDY WILLIAMS (4.792)

    65. STEREOPHONICS (4.8)

    64. LED ZEPPELIN (4.8)

    63. MIKE OLDFIELD (4.852)

    62. BRYAN ADAMS (4.903)

    61. GEORGE BENSON (4.92)

I gather that the Mike Oldfield haters haven't heard the glorious 'Moonlight Shadow'. Elsewhere, Shirley Bassey is the only female on the chart so far. Bryan Adams is a little low, but I assume that's mainly due to 'Everything I do', and I'm surprised George Benson has so many haters on here - I always assumed he was a really poplular soul singer.

    grin

Shirley will be devastated to know so many other female singers who just don't have the range are more popular on here than her

Morelike ignorance, I'd say. I for one hardly know anything about him (let alone hum any of his tunes), apart from the fact he did the original of Glenn Medeiros' "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You". :geek:

And am I sorely mistaken, or is Sting's cock showing in that picture?

Yes. Though Mick Hucknall is still a ginger champagne socialist tosser.

Mind you, his 90s remixes remained good.. always got the best house people and kept his ear to the ground.

NOT one of the brightest spots in his career. I have/had the mp3 for his version and it's STILL slushy crap. But you can't fault the likes of "Gimme The Night" and "Never Give Up On A Good Thing".. excellent songs in the early 80s heyday of R&B. Great guitarist and singer.

    60. ROBBIE WILLIAMS (4.935)

    59. BARBRA STREISAND (4.935)

    58. BILLY JOEL (5)

    57. MADNESS (5.034)

    56. E.L.O. (5.08)

    55. ERIC CLAPTON (5.161)

    54. ELVIS PRESLEY (5.226)

    53. LIONEL RICHIE (5.226)

    52. JOHN LENNON (5.323)

    51. FRANK SINATRA (5.355)

We're half way through, and Barbra Streisand is the second of only 2 ladies to appear in the bottom half of the chart (so Madge has made it into the top 50!). Lionel Richie should be much higher, and I thought John Lennon would be higher (although I'm glad he isn't!). The most successful artist of all-time is way down at #54.

    43. CELINE DION (5.484)

    42. BEAUTIFUL SOUTH (5.5)

    41. OASIS (5.548)

Some great acts in this segment - Luther, The Corrs, Beautiful South & Celine Dion all ought to be higher. Bryan Ferry is more popular with Roxy Music than he is solo (rightly!), and Oasis are sitting just below the top 40.

From now on I'll try and do commentary after each act.
