Q's Guilty Pleasures list
Dunno if this should be merged with Sheena's thread BUT
ELO top 'guilty secret' song list
ELO's 1976 single Livin' Thing has topped a Q magazine list of uncool records it is okay to love. "ELO may never be fashionable but, in terms of sheer aural elation, this betters more revered bands' entire back catalogues," says the magazine.
The top 10 "guilty pleasures" also includes More Than a Feeling by Boston, S Club 7's Don't Stop Movin' and 10cc's I'm Not In Love.
Q says it aims to "restore a veritable treasure trove of music to glory".
TOP TEN GUILTY PLEASURES
1. ELO - Livin' Thing
2. Boston - More Than A Feeling
3. S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin'
4. 10cc - I'm Not In Love
5. Gary Glitter - Rock'n'Roll Part 2
6. Foreigner - Cold As Ice
7. Billy Idol - Rebel Yell
8. Status Quo - Whatever You Want
9. Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street
10. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

Have Your Say: What are your guilty pleasures?
Other records in the list include Never Ever by All Saints, and Life is a Roller Coaster by Ronan Keating - both of which reached number one in the UK.
Manic Monday by the Bangles and Status Quo's Whatever You Want also make the Top 20.
The Electric Light Orchestra, led by multi-instrumentalist Jeff Lynne, had a string of hits in the 1970s, including Roll Over Beethoven and Don't Bring Me Down.
They also had considerable success in the US, becoming a staple of the stadium rock circuit.
Q described Livin' Thing, from their 1976 album A New World Record, as "gloriously bonkers".

It's been too long, it's been too long...
Mine is definitely Shitlife - Flying Without Wings.
I hate that band soooooo much but I love that track.
Shut up and let me see your jazz hands....
I never understood why Flying Without Wings was considered to be so great. It's one of their more offensive offerings with that dirty arse fag wailing all over it...
The list is shit. I don't know anyone who's ashamed to like Don't Stop Movin'. If anything, it's one of the few pop songs that it's OK for EVERYONE to like...
FEARLESS FEMALE
The only Westshite songs I semi-tolerate are "Fool Again" and "World of Our Own".
It depends what kind of music you are into though really!!!
It you are a bad ass rap bredrin you would be shamed to say you like S Club 7!
Shut up and let me see your jazz hands....
Well I suppose I don't really understand the concept of being ashamed of certain types of music. Let's face it, on the credibility scales I'm AS LOW AS YOU CAN GO
FEARLESS FEMALE
I don't care either - I was proclaiming loudly how I love Girls Aloud and they are amazing at a rock gig I was at and all my friends who are into the rock / emo scene were like "Thats not something to brag about"
I was like, "MEH. I don't care, Girls Aloud are amazing and I am comfortable enough with my own coolness to shout it from the rooftops without worrying that people will think I am not cool / rock enough!"
*dances to Love Machine!*
Shut up and let me see your jazz hands....
What's that remake that the irish git has just done? I like that one![]()

While we're at it.. what's wrong with Billy Idol?!
both these guys were the definition of cool when they were out and stood the test of time just fine as their was some good music made.

They're just not quite as CUTTING EDGE as Keane, Coldplay, U2 and Feeder, sadly....
I have been having a bit of an ELO BINGE lately.

I don't really abide with all this "guilty pleasures" nonsense to be honest. A great record is a great record whoever made it. There's little enought truly great music around without fencing chunks of it off.
I must fight this sickness
Find a cure
I never thought ELO or Billy Idol were embarassing, and that S Club 7 song is the one that it's perfectly OK to like. And who the hell would have to "admit" liking I Will Survive?![]()

It's like "I will survive" is not a song I can like anymore, at least for me. It's a fucking STAPLE at every 70's disco themed party, it's played in every wedding, it's always on some VH1 flashback special or some shit. ENOUGH ALREADY.

Well yes, the same for everybody. I can't imagine anyone listening to it in the privacy of their own homes, but is anyone ASHAMED to say they like it?
I guess alot of people think that producer driven pop music is not as 'credible' as band/singer songwriter stuff. Personally I think that's absolute shit.

But anyway, i'd put mr blue sky above livin thing in the popularity stakes.
Every song in that list is at least decent though some have suffered ridiculous overplay. That's S Club's most acclaimed song as well, I remember the NME raving about it
I don't actually like Don't Stop Movin' very much. S Club had better songs.
FEARLESS FEMALE
I loved it at first, but I sort of resent it for overshadowing most of their other hits.
Q calls it S Club's most mature moment, which is another inaccuracy, and besides the point anyway.
I'm sick of reading lists in magazines, they seem to have replaced interviews and properly-written articles.
Q Magazine is such a fucking rag these days anyway. Annoying how it's as popular as it's ever been.
I never liked 'Dont Stop Moving' at all.
'Natural' is just about the only S Club song i wouldn't turn the radio off for. (ballads aside)
i used to get Q but haven't read it in about 2 years or so now. I forget those magazines exist. I did with the NME until i heard a shitty advert for it on the radio last week!
I stopped getting Q a few months ago - I was sick of the constant rotation of 'Let's big up U2/Coldplay/Nirvana/Sex Pistols'

I agree, I'd say Mr Blue Sky is the main one. I'd also have Don't Bring Me Down above Livin' Thing too, even Shine A Little Love. I do need a ELO GH at some point.Originally Posted by Kitty Kat

I only get music mags now if they're running a specific feature I'm interested in.
