I've just discovered this, apparently starting on Broadway soon, and going down a storm in San Fran (if the comments on youtube and myspace are anything to go by )... the first song "Omigod You Guys" will be in ggggg soon, and is listenable-to on myspace.

On the subject of TOO GAY I just watched, let's call it an ITEM, on Xtube which had `Double Dutch Bus' by Frankie Smith as a soundtrack

Frankie interjected `Give me a `HO' if you've got your FUNKY BUS FARE' at quite a VITAL MOMENT

    Truly BIZARRE
    And oh...

    Is it NOW Maurice?

Looks like there will be an announcement this month about a November opening! I am VERY EXCITED about it. There are some clunkers, but there are about 6 JOYOUS songs in there, which I will ggggg at some point.

The rumour is it'll replace We Will Rock You at whatever theatre that's at.

The Dominion. I was there just today and was wondering when the fuck We Will Rock You was going to close. They keep announcing the end and then that generates more interest so they extend the run.

Broadway screen-to-stage musical Legally Blonde is gearing up for a West End premiere later this year, possibly in November. Producers have been in town this week to meet with UK marketing agencies pitching for the account – which could also explain why Jerry Mitchell was available on Tuesday to collect the Critics’ Circle Award for Hairspray (the choreographer both directed and choreographed Legally Blonde in New York). The stage show is based on the 2001 Hollywood comedy in which Reese Witherspoon played a ditzy West Coast sorority queen who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School in an attempt to win him back. It has music and lyrics by husband-and-wife team Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe. Songs include “Ohmigod You Guys”, “Serious”, “The Harvard Variations”, “Whipped into Shape”, “Find My Way” and the title number.

    YAY!

This is my current favourite, which closes Act I

She goes a bit wobbly at the end but that happens to most Broadway leading ladies when a camera is pointed at them.

Oh Thank GOD Grease is going. I did think it wasn't big enough to take over The Dominion. Has We Will Rock You been extended again?

I'm pretty sure I read a while back WWRY has been extended.

Is Grease OVER or moving elsewhere? That really is quite poor for a TV promoted show, isn't it?

Maybe Grease is going on tour. I would have seen it if it wasn't for the grotesque cast. RAY QUINN as Doody? Fuck off. I hear it's really short with hardly any dialogue between the songs in this production because the leads are really shit actors.

Going on tour really is 'over' unless it remains in the West End though, isn't it?

No show leaves the West End if it is still making money. Moving theatre, perhaps. When you consider the cost of a tour and the lower ticket prices outside of London, why would a successful show leave unless it was only ever on a limited season anyway?

There was lots of speculation at our Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Awards Concert on Sunday that Sheridan Smith, who co-hosted the event for a second year in a row with James Corden, might be returning to the musical stage herself to play the lead in the planned West End transfer of Broadway hit Legally Blonde.

Nothing’s official yet, of course, but, producers please note: we can’t imagine anyone better – or lovelier – to play the part of perky Elle. Smith gave a standout performance in her last West End musical role, as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, for which she was both Whatsonstage.com and Olivier nominated last year. Perhaps at next year’s Awards Concert we’ll be able to entice her into singing as well as presenting?!

No dates or theatre have yet been announced for Legally Blonde’s West End premiere, though bets are on for the Piccadilly Theatre in the autumn. The musical, which premiered on Broadway in April 2007, is based on the 2001 Hollywood comedy in which Reese Witherspoon played California sorority girl Elle who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School in an attempt to win him back. It has a book by Heather Hach and music and lyrics by husband-and-wife team Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe. Songs include “Ohmigod You Guys”, “Serious”, “The Harvard Variations”, “Whipped into Shape”, “Find My Way” and the title number. It’s directed and choreographed by previous Whatsonstage.com Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, The Full Monty).

Ooh, Jerry Mitchell is all kinds of HAWT. If you're into sensitive theatrical types that is.

I'd be very up for seeing this, particularly with Sheridan Smith. She was absolutely brilliant in "Little Shop Of Horrors" a few years back and I think she'd be perfect for this. A couple of things though... the Broadway production never really took off and closed at the start of this year. And nothing ever lasts very long at the Piccadilly - it's quite a small house, so they put shows in there that are not expected to bust any blocks.

    Fingers crossed!

Is the Piccadilly the one just off the Circus itself, right next to the old Regent Palace hotel?

    OH DEAR

The Savoy is SWISH but SMALL and home to crap touring productions of musicals and plays that don't last 5 minutes.

Still, at least that'll mean there's less chance of it closing within the first MONTH.

Oh I didn't realise it was such a crap theatre! Is it on a par with the Comdey Theatre size wise? I saw Sunset Boulevard there recently and the stalls were only barely half full. Mortifying.

    How awful for LB.

The Dominion is an absolute BARN. They clearly don't think LB would last there (and I think they're right), it's got a much better chance of success at the Savoy.

It's very pretty to look at but pretty small. Recent MEGA HITS there have been Never Forget: The Take That Musical, multiple crap touring productions all starring Dave Willetts and a ropey version of Blithe Spirit with Penleope Keith.
