I'm disappointed. I didn't realise the shard would look that fat.

those are STUN GORGE
I wonder if the source pics are anywhere, they'd make good wallpapers. London is pretty flat for a large city.
I walk past the Shard on my way to work, it's going to be amazing watching it rise next year.
If being myself is what I do wrong
Then I would rather not be right
I LOVE the one of Regent Street lit up with giant stars at Christmas. That must look AMAZING from a PLANE
like a GIANT STREAK OF TINSEL![]()
Have we all seen the planned London Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park? It's by Zaha Hadid and construction is due to be completed in 2011.
AMAZE
I've seen those pictures before and still can't make sense of them, where are the angular high edges from the second picture in the third one?

Well I did read that the original has been scaled back due to going over budget, so perhaps one of those is the original, and one what we're actually getting.
I'm sorry but in that second photo all I could focus on was the blind wheelchair user and their dog!
How bloody politically correct can you get! As if they'd be allowed out on their own!
Other than that, nice building.![]()
Is any of this going to be ready by 2012?
I love the CG rendering of hopeful weather conditions.
From what I've seen it's all gona up rapidly... I have heard nothing of being behind schedule.
I think I'm about the only person in the country who's quite curious to see how a London Olympics plays out.
I wanna go to something!
I, too, am looking forward too seeing how the 2012 games pan out. I can see the opening ceremony being a bit embarrassing though. Will they creative dance colonialism to the sounds of Spice Girls? Only time will tell.

The Olympic venues are coming on well

How LOVELY.
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
The CGI rendering of the Aquatics Centre looks like the surrounding area is going to be a concrete hell hole. I reckon that about 6 months after the Olympics it will be somewhere no-one feels safe to go apart from skate boarding ruffians and it'll be covered in graffiti.
it doesn't really look that far from Canaray Wharf at all from that view.
AMAZE.
Thought I would share this image I found when browsing for the CrossRail map. It's a mockup for the London transport grid by 2025 (not sure if it leaked or whether it was shared for reference purposes, but it's out there)
Sorry about the size, but you can see everything this way anyway. It's a LOT of detail. Things I've noticed:
- they've had to mess with the station placements again. Central line is no longer flat!
- CrossRail has been merged with the tube network in full
- the DLR has been extended from Bank westwards to Charing Cross - not sure if that means they are going to extend the tunnel through to the current Charing Cross station or they're going to build a NEW MONORAIL ALONG THE RIVER (unlikely, but OMG). It creates a new citylink station at the junction where it crosses the thameslink (just south of Chancery lane) and brings back the old Aldwych station from BEYOND THE GRAVE!
- the much talked about CrossRail 2 is there, and renamed the Chelsea-Hackney line, which is what it was to begin with anyway. Starts at Wimbledon sharing the current District line, splits off east to cover a huge area of SW1 currently not serviced by the tube, with a new station at the posh Kings Road site. Then it creates a new central London tunnel via Victoria, Picadilly, TCR and Kings Cross, before linking to the currently disused tunnel/station at Essex Road. Then on to Hackney, linking to London Overground, putting Hackney on the tube map for the FIRST TIME EVER
- They're planning a tramlink running from Brixton and Peckham and merging at the South Bank through central London and up to Camden. That's going to be an ARSE to install. Right through the fucking centre of town.
- The current Croydon tramlink servicing Wimbledon and Beckenham is extended to service Streatham, Tooting and Crystal Palace (poor Streatham, still no tube station, even in 15 years time)
- New Tramlinks in Essex and Greenwich linking the outer DLR stations and CrossRail
- The East London line is now a full loop of the Overground network, stretching south through Peckham and Wandsworth with a Northern Line interchange at Clapham, and northside linking Hackney to Hampstead.
- There don't seem to be any extensions to the current tube lines, which I assume these new additions are supposed to prevent.
All in all, GET A MOVE ON BORIS!
can you imagine a tourist trying to read this on the train wall?![]()
About the only thing I'm interested in are the new Imperial Wharf and Kings Road tube stops. Much needed.
Gosh funky, you're such a geek. I'm a born and bred Londoner and even I don't care that much.
some of the architecture really is BORING to the MAX.
I usually LOVE Zaha, but it looks as if she's on autopilot here, or the budget has been reduced so much that she's just thrown any old shit into the mix.
I surrender to every word you whisper
And what do we think of this...

I can't say I even knew that was getting built, let alone having ever seen it.
But YAY to E&C castle getting a (albeit slow) facelift. It's too close to the centre to be so GROTTY.

I'm pretty sure I've spotted it from a train, whilst PASSING London.
That's fucking AMAZING. It really does remind me of:

It's an ace building. And you see it from all over the place - it keeps popping up.
I've got one of the underground apps on my Touch and often find myself randomly playing with it and looking at all the station names. If I lived in London, I know I'd be one of the geeks visiting every station and trying to get to see the 'ghost' ones.
Beautiful pictures really!!
Have you been on the new overground version of east london line?Originally Posted by David_5000

I love that building in E&C. The turbines at the top look fantastic and you really can see it from a lot of different places in London.
The new trains on the East London line are really cool. I was also shocked a couple of months ago when I got the train from South Acton (really near me) to West Hampstead. Every time I'd used that line previously it was really grotty old trains - exactly what you think of when you think of suburban rail in London - but this time it was the same trains as the East London line. They're a bit like DLR trains, but nicer, and they're bendy with no doors between all carriages, so you can see right the way down the train. I love them.
I took an overground train from Euston to Kilburn the other day. It was AMAZE. The train was full of people and it still seemed empty - that's the key. And yes it was freezing on there, but that's good because it was a hot day![]()
