    swedish Melodifestivalen 2008 - Delfinal 2 i Västerås (16th Feb)

Welcome to one of Sweden's oldest cities, Västerås.

As last Satuday's winner Amy Diamond (and Paolo Meneguzzi) once sung, it can only get better.

Well in fairness Carola & Andreas, Ola and Sanna should at least have fairly high quality material, which is more than last week.

I don't think Sanna stands a CHANCE of direct qualification unless Ola is really underwhelming and/or she's REALLY good. Thank God last weeks semi-finalists weren't that great.

From the song title and the picture, I'm thinking Andra Genarationen's "Kebabpizza Slivovitza" will be a DIRE novelty record, which means it'll probably go through....

Apparently Sanna has the only real ballad this week as all the others are uptempo. So she should easily be Top4. Plus she's never failed to deliver bar her first entry. Even her rejected entry from 2006 Vägen Hem is MORE than decent.

Ola and the gruesome twosome should sail through to the finals. But we'll probably have to wait and see.

I'm going to stay hopeful, the previous two times Sanna was in Heat 2, she qualified to Globen, I am hoping that's a precedent.

God the "Andreas & Carola Are Evil" bit has gotten VERY DULL VERY QUICKLY

Both of them have provided GREAT entries separately in the past, I really CANNOT FATHOM why this would be so different...

'Evighet' is indeed quite the little bundle of wonderfulness, all of his entries have been a spawn of the bastard love child of Bono and Razorlight, not exactly the height of musical greatness, non?

Put them together and you've got a religious old bag and a Bono clone pumping out any old shit for the sake of it.

I don't want them to win, frankly, cause I don't really like either of them.

But on the other hand, we could at least be sure that they would be safe hands performance-wise.

I don't really enjoy Johnson's entries but I can see why people do. I loved Evighet but since Kvint has a hand in the Johnson/Häggqvist entry I might not be all that fond. But I'll try to reserve my judgement

Do we have a description of the song, it does sound like it's going to be MoR to me.

I'm going to Vasteras on Friday and attending the dress rehearsal on Saturday afternoon before jumping on the train to Stockholm to watch the show in a bar. Can't wait.

It's all about Carola & Andreas and Sanna for me, but I hope Ola delivers something really good too. The Nicole could be good too. I really like her first single http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQzkJtiiY68

I don't get the Carola / Andreas negativity at all. 'Lucky Star' is absolutely beautiful and 'One Love' is obviously going to be even better. They're both fantastic performers and Sweden REALLY could do with playing it safe this year at Eurovision...

Oh, and predictions for this semi... (obviously done without hearing them!)

    Final

    Johnson & Haggkvist
    Ola

    Andra Chansen

    Andra Genarationen
    Sanna Nielsen

But I'd LOVE Sanna to prove me wrong. I think she'd be massively unlucky not to make it past the semi though, she must be fairly highly regarded by now in the public's eyes...

I didn't like it when I heard the live performance, but the studio version is one of my all time favourite Carola songs. And, seriously, I wanted to hate this collaboration.

You can't get it on the UK iTunes which is a bit shit, as I'd quite like to hear the monstrosity. The live performance was spectacularly awful, just him humming and staring longly into her eerily botoxed face.

All joking a side, it's got potential but Kvint's got a poor track record hasn't he?

I actually think Sanna might just sneak past Ola. Given her song is the only ballad.

It should be a pretty straight-forward top 4 though

    I am going with

    Carola and Andreas
    Sanna

    Ola
    Andra Genarationen

I've never heard Vägen Hem. Can anyone provide?

I'm only annoyed about Carola/Andreas in the sense that having a really obvious winner is really boring to me. Hopefully Charlotte and/or BWO will give them a run for their money. The song I'm actually rather looking forward to.

Although I don't get the love for either of Andreas' entries. Both piss-weak ripoffs of old songs to me. I loved Glorious though.

Oh Apoca did it for me already since you took FOREVER.

Although if you have Svante & Anne and Lustans. I don't like either, but they're the only two I still don't have on MP3 and I like to be completist.

Also don't worry about Velvet, I found their whole album on a blog!

I've only perused the singles. Fix Me and Chemistry have a certain Cascada-esque charm.

Not so sure about their pointless covers of Electric Avenue and Don't Stop Movin'.

It is ALL ABOUT 'In And Out Of Love' for me. That is an utter joy! I can imagine a video involving roller-discos and leg warmers

Didn't she say that there'd be a new album out in April? Or she hoped there would?

The new album will have 'Fix Me' and 'Chemistry' on it apparently. But it doesn't have a release date yet...i suppose it might be difficult given what happened at the weekend.

She could always go back to being a dancer/backing singer at MF i suppose.

She does faceless chav-tastic dance well though.

I'd imagine she'll push for a 'Deja Vu' release, I bet bloody 'I Love Europe' will get a release so Velvet definitely should!

I'd love an album from her, 'Chemistry' is wonderful, and how she managed to slip 'bio-gravity' in a song is beyond me.

I don't see why 'Deja Vu' won't be released. All 32 last year had a single release...i think.

Whoever put this Elin song in the ykw, THANKS! It is pretty much THE TITS

It was me. Rather good innit!

I don't suppose you have her I Can Do It (Watch Me Now?) do you? I quite like that one. Although I Won't Cry is a tad drippy.

I Won't Cry was #1 for 4 weeks in 2004. It's very 'Big Big World'.

I much prefer the followup 'I Can Do It (Watch Me Now)'. It's very early Britney!

Hmmm, that's the thing though... they're not obvious winners really. Certainly I think this year is MUCH more open than 2007 and 2006. Carola & Andreas, Charlotte, BWO have all got a huge chance of winning, and the competition always throws up some unexpected big hitters too. Carola & Andreas certainly don't have it in the bag like The Ark did or Carola back in 2006.

I hope you're right. I suppose part of the reason Carola walked it in 2006 was that it was THE RETURN fifteen years after she last entered (and won the whole thing). Coming back two years after she finished fifth isn't quite the same event.

Still, the combined power of their fanbases....

Like I said though if the song is ace then fine. Part of me would just rather see Charlotte get it because she needs it more, and hopefully she can knock out a good album afterwards. An album of Carola and Andreas duets doesn't particularly appeal...

Oh and Deja Vu is out on the 20/2 according to Ginza. The only Heat One entry that doesn't seem to have a release date yet is Amy Diamond.
