This is GREAT
I'm STRAIGHT
I do love bits of it a huge amount though. The aforementioned "Nine out of ten" is cracking, "Something special" is almost heartbreaking and "Out of my system" is fabulously NASTY. Well what would you do if the boy you've been shagging for 3 months turns out to be a POOF.
I do love the bit where MILE END LEE does all that COCKERNEY acting, then starts singing with an angelic voice (in "Closer To Heaven #2"). The boy that played him thought he was going to be HUGE. Frankie Barber couldn't STAND him (and he had to have his hand up her dress every night) and thought OTHERWISE.
I see I've already told my "he's supposed to be overdosing on cocaine not looking like he's BAKING A FUCKING CAKE" story above
I could do the one about ME and Neil's beautiful friendship being SABOTAGED in the GROUCHO by JANET STREET FUCKING PORTER but I'll leave THAT one for now![]()

I love the lyrics to 'Outta My System'. It's so amusingly crap. Neil attempting to do contemporary (ish) RnB and really not doing a very good job of it!
"I'm gonna get him
Outta my system
Get him
Outta my system
Get him
Outta my system
Gonna get him outta my system"
*repeat x infinity*![]()
"Caligula was a BASTARD
Like most important men
And over the years I've known
QUITE A FEW OF THEM
It's just my little tribute
To Caligula
DARLING!"

I think Jonathan Harvey had a hand in the lyrics too, not just the book, so he's partially to blame. To be fair, the PSBs do DRUGGY CLUB CULTURE in MUSICAL FORM was always going to come a cropper really but I do really like a lot of the songs and I really loved the show.
The JSP story could have been a scene out of the show. Suffice it to say, she was MASHED at the time![]()
For when you're living on your own
Without a girlfriend or a home
People SPECULATE...
That reminds me, the PSB's "Some Speculation" is my song of the week. It's so fabulously PARANOID in that scary way Neil does so well.
I'm not one of those TALL THIN MEN who likes SHOWTUNES
I'm not that TWEE
Carousel is, Les Mis as well is
A LIVING HELL for me
Cause I'm not one of those tall thin men who likes showtunes
On the western stage
Ute Lemper puts me in a temper
And so does Elaine Flaming Paige
Now if THAT number had ended up in it I MIGHT have BOTHERED
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
There are some fantastic alternate versions out there if you're really into the show. The PROPER, 9 minute version of the opener "My Night" makes it impossible to listen to the truncated version on the CD (get the version with the cast, not the demo with Neil doing his best Billie Trix impression)
I MADE a movie once in Paris: "The Masturbation Of Race". I played Norway. My fjords were STUNNING
We're gonna LIGHT up the NIGHT with FIREWORKS...
I'm rather partial to Frances Barber's "Run Girl Run" too (the protest song Billie has released in the seventies) - I bought the CD single of that in the theatre. God knows what it goes for now, probably a fair bit for the PSB loons.
The BALLET SCORE is out next month I see
Let's hope it's more BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN (which really is a MARVEL) than CLOSER TO HEAVEN
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
I wonder if the fragrant TOM WATKINS often plays "Call Me Old-Fashioned" when he's at HOME of an EVENING![]()
I'm inexplicably listening to this soundtrack on spotify right now. FUCKING HELLIt sounds like something by the Legz Akimbo theatre company! I can't find it on youtube alas, but literally that "Everybody Out" play they did, if anyone knows The League of Gentlemen. No wonder it bombed.
However i'm very much liking 'Friendly Fire' by the ever magnificent Dame Frances.
