Tracey Thorn - Out Of The Woods
In honour of a new album landing this year - what did you make of this?
I know a few weren't initially sure; I know the same few mostly did a 360 eventually
Personally I ALWAYS thought it was fab...
10/10
utterly fantastic both when it was cleverly grooving as well as when it was sad and reflective and ever more so when it was both at the same time
i cannot wait for the new one
the best song wasn't a single
I've just noticed that 'Falling Off A Log' mentions POKEMON
I now want to give an EXTRA POINT
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
I haven't listened to this in ages
that's my Friday afternoon sorted
I think I'll join you there Funk.
Though my iPod has an uncanny predilection for "Raise The Roof" when it's on shuffle so I may have to SACK that one OFF.
Not when it permanently gets SHOVED down my throat. The first 3 seconds get right on my NANCY now.
where's the new album then? i'm sure she was mastering it months ago...

Raise The Roof is very ANNIE LENNOX
Not that that's a bad thing.
I'm JUST SAYING
MOTIV8 VOCAL SLAM
7 was a bit harsh but what can you do. I'd like to re-rate about 50% of my efforts in this forum![]()
still 10/10 for me
i really can't wait to see what she has in store next, i'm a bit worried the new album won't have any of the gorgeous electronic uptempos
although i have been enjoying her magnetic fields cover with jens lekman loads
the best song wasn't a single
Fantastic album. Some fab mellow dance grooves. I'll have to relive this album at some point.
Top up, Sue?
just this once
let me tell you
you're the sweetest thing
bit of a revival here, i think it's now safe to call it one of my favourite albums of the noughties
the best song wasn't a single
This could be just what I need right now to calm my WORN NERVES.
Top up, Sue?
The followup was a bit disappointing, wasn't it? I LOVE 'Oh The Divorces' but the rest was really quite dreary.
it had it moments, but it wasn't close to OOTW really
i loved the slower, moodier songs like kentish town and come on home to me - they wee glorious
things like hormones however killed the mood
sidebar: do you know this one vori? i'm sure you'd love it
the best song wasn't a single
is this the one you played me in the ugly "park", ameraal? it is oh so sad. day ruined now![]()
I really disliked the second album, but put that down to high expectations
this album remains glorious however
it just lacked any SOUL. I was all up for an acoustic album but I was hoping for moody and haunting, like her previous acoustic efforts.
It was much more kooky and indie than that.
The best track from the era was obviously the Hot Chip remix of her "king's cross" cover
Her 2010 album was OK if you accept that it's basically a "concept album". The remix EP is worth checking out.
.
she has a new EP out in a couple of weeks!
New track called "Night Time" - haven't heard it yet...
Well I HATE HATE HATE King's Cross, primarily, I don't doubt, because the original is one of my all time favourite tracks. Tracey's wishy washy reading of it really does the BITE of the track no favours at all.
Anyway, I'm curious as to how this new EP will turn out. Like pretty much everyone, I liked the first album and really struggled to connect with the second (dud original solo album completely disregarded, NATCH).
