I'm surprised Shirley's english is so heavily accented. Isn't her father a Brit?
EscToday interviews!
Shirley talks about the English version of "Min Kärlek", which she recorded only a couple of days ago for her new album. She also pull some rather funny faces!
Alcazar with the amazing Lina looking fabulous as always!![]()

"I was so happy that I was ugly"
Poor UGLY Shirley!
Maybe you're confusing Shirley with Amy Diamond? Easy mistake to make! I think that she has an English father or at least lived in the UK for a while.

No, I'm almost positive Shirley has an English father, hence her distinctly un-Swedish name. Wiki agrees with me.
But then maybe she didn't grow up with him...
Amy lived in England until she was about four. When she speaks in English she has a cockney accent. So bizarre!
Sarah DF and Sonja have English roots too.
I'm fairly sure Shirley is half British/has an British passport, I read it some place...
Why can't we get her for the UK, or born in St Albans Sonja?
You are a depraved bird of hate, get out of my sight!
Amy's still got her British accent, she lived here until she was 4 I think.
Lina got lost in her own fabulousness in that Interview, 'Errrrrrm, girls!', 'Oh, yes, yes, March!'.
Professionally copied from another forum!
Finally some reviews that aren't 100% positive, like those on most Eurovision websites.
As for Marie Serneholt, I'm sure she's just saving her precious voice. Didn't they say the same about Charlotte Perrelli last year? *clutches at straws*
Nina Söderquist - Tick Tock
The style of the song is similar to the Finnish entry for ESC 2007, "Leave Me Alone", put with more polished vocals. The song is a bit repetitive, but shouldn't be ruled out. The performance will feature both shirtless male dancers, pyrotechnics and a wind machine.
Jonathan Fagerlund - Welcome to My Life
This song wouldn't have been out of place in one of the "High School Musical" films. It is catchy and radio friendly, but sounds like something that has been heard many times before. It probably won't stand a chance on Saturday.
Shirley Clamp - Med hjärtat fyllt av ljus
Most of all, it sounds like a Se på mig/Kärleken är/För att du finns hybrid. It's not a bad song, but it isn't as strong as Shirley's previous MF entries. It may very well qualify for the final due to Shirley's popularity, but is not a contender for Moscow.
Scotts - Jag tror på oss
Most of all, it sounds like a song rejected by Linda Bengtzing - which is exactly what is is! It's very repetitive, and its chances of qualifying will most of all depend on the live performance.
Emilia – You're My World
A jazzy pop song with a Motown vibe. It's a song that grows on you, and it may well become a radio hit, but it's lacking in instant catchiness. However, Emilia's performance is strong. Could be a dark horse.
Alcazar - Stay the Night
Alcazar at their best! Pure 70s disco. Even though the song is a little repetitive, it's definitely their best MF entry to date and a very likely qualifier.
Caroline af Ugglas - Snälla, snälla
A soul ballad in the style of Monica Törnell or Janis Joplin that will most likely not qualify.
Marie Serneholt - Disconnect Me
The song sounds very fabricated and is quite repetitive, but could qualify if the performance improves drastically. During her first rehearsal, her vocals were a little out of tune, most notably after the key change. Among her dancers is Fredrik Olofsson, who is also a member of Man Meadow (Polish NF 08 & 09).
OMG! I love that Shirley clip. She's so lovely.
Oh and btw Shirley's dad is Australian and SDF's dad is American.
I can't bloody wait to hear Shirley's song.
"Höjningen har en snygg passage och Marie får till skriken coolt, men tonerna i själva höjningen sitter inte perfekt."
That means that in Marie's number, she has a nice passage in the key change where she gets to shriek coolly, but her sound in the key change itself doesn't work perfectly.
Does anyone else get the impression that Alcazar could outshine BWO in this year's placing?
Providing Alcazar nail it on Saturday which isn't impossible going on both the first play of the song to the press and the reactions from the rehearsals today, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go DTG.
BWO are either coming 5th or going to the AC.
Why is everyone being so negative about BWO? Just cause everyone thinks they can't do well with a ballad?
I'll wait until I hear the song before writing them off.
At the moment
DTG: Alcazar and our Shirl'
A.C.: Nina and The Scotts
5th: Emilia
6th: Marie
7th: Jonathon
8th. Caroline
Hey i'm Mollie, i love being a Saturday!! I love New York, going out for breakfast, Jack Wills, Gossip Girl and Nissan Figaros!
I wonder if Linda actually recorded a demo for Jag tror på oss?
LEAK LEAK LEAK.
As much as I predicted an Alcazar disaster, I'd be pretty happy if they pulled it off. Shirley and Alcazar DTG would be a very pleasing result for me. Although I'd rather see Emilia do it than Alcazar. But she probably won't.
Interesting that her (Emilia) live performance has been singled out. Having never heard her live I was worried this may be her downfall, as she hasn't got the most strident voice in the world.
I think the race between 3rd, 4th and 5th places is quite close after the reports of the first day repet. Emilia is definitely in the mix according to most of the observers.
Oh, of course she recorded it, the song was selected based on her demo tape. It might very well leak post MF, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Personally I think even if Shirley gets through, we'll possibly have two Swedish ballads in the final, because I bet my arse that Molly Sandén will sail through her heat and those votes are most certainly going to be split come Globen.

The samples have been posted on the SVT website!
YAY!

Based on first impressions :
1- Alcazar
2- Emilia
3- Marie Serneholt
4- Shirley Clamp
5- Nina Söderquist
6- Scotts
7- Caroline af Ugglas
Alcazar is the clear stand out on first listen. With a fabulous performance they'll hopefully have no trouble qualifying for the final.
I'm also quite fond of Emilia's song. It's completely different from what I expected her to sing, more energetic and I hope it can qualify as well. Final seems doubtful, but maybe she can just make it to the A.C.. Fingers crossed.
As for Marie Serneholt's song, I don't think it's as instant as Alcazar's 'Stay The Night', but it will almost definitely grow on me. She'll probably be this year's Velvet / Jessica Folcker / Jessica Andersson, but hopefully she can surprise on Saturday.

SVT INTERNET SITE MELTDOWN then![]()
It's been too long, it's been too long...
Alcazar is shockingly good. With a no-holds barred performance this should sweep into Globen with no trouble at all.
The rest of the line-up ain't bad at all though. Shirley, Marie and Emilia all come out laughing and Fagarlund is pretty decent. Surprised how dull the Scotts turned out to be - must have been a no brainer for Linda to say no to that.
1 - Alcazar
2 - Shirley Clamp
3 - Marie Serneholt
4 - Emilia
5 - Jonathan Fagerlund
6 - Scotts
7 - Nina Söderquist
8 - Caroline af Ugglas
I'm only 2 songs in but I'm LOVING Shirley...with the right presentation, it could be FABULOUS
It's been too long, it's been too long...
On the other hand, Alcazar is FUCKING MAGNIFICENT
But who said it was 70s disco? It REALLY isn't...
FABULOUS
It's been too long, it's been too long...
If the new Alcazar girl can sing, they're laughing. I note that Andreas is nowhere to be heard![]()
Oooh I even like Caroline Ugly
It's been too long, it's been too long...
My rank then
1. Alcazar
2. Shirley Clamp
3. Marie Serneholt
4. Caroline af Ugglas
5. Emilia
6. Jonathan Fagerlund
7. Nina Soderquist
8. The Scotts
The Scotts is just a "Fangad av en stormvind" rip off, innit?
It's been too long, it's been too long...
Damn I can't play them at work.
But I'm not sure about Lina's vocal talents. Her version of Alla Flickor is APPALLING.
OK, just in the order I'm listening to them.
Emilia - inoffensive retropop, solid but not spectacular
Shirley - the way she's been talking it up I was expecting something on the level of 'Min Karlek', it's not, it's good but kind of expected.
Alcazar - I'm not thrilled with it, but I do think it will translate well on stage (as long as we don't get the usual Alcazar heat vocal issues)
Nina Soderquist - This is so not going to do anything, but I kinda like it, as much as it feels like a Bonnie Tyler 80s cast off.
Jonathan Fagerlund - No, bland, boring, anaemic, where's the punch? Mc Fly reject.
Marie Sernerholt - My favourite so far on first listen, I like them punchy.
Caroline af Ugglas - Something a bit different, and in a good way I think, depends a lot on how well it's performed and the track record, not so good.
Scotts - Fangad meets McFly's middle aged equivalents, forgettable.
You are a depraved bird of hate, get out of my sight!
Alcazar - FUCKING AMAZING!! Totally fits in with their recent sound - sounds like 'We Keep On Rockin' and 'Burning'
Marie - Britney b-side from 1999 - no bad thing
Emilia - Beautiful and uplifting a definite contender
Shirley - Not as bad as I was expecting, nice enough but doesn't really do it for me
Nina - Don't hate it, but it does sound dated (like David says a bit Bonnie Tyler)
Jonathon - Good, singalong a bit teen movie sounding and he's fit so I like this one
Scotts - Jonas Brothers in Swedish
Caroline - No
Ranked from 1 listen:
1. Marie Serneholt
2. Shirley Clamp
3. Alcazar
4. Caroline af Ugglas

5. Scotts
6. Shirley Clamp
7. Nina Soderquist

How much of Shirley can you hear? Do you get the inevitable glory note or is it just the first verse/chorus? I reckon it'll be one of those quiet storm type songs that starts off slow and then really takes off.
