Which will the 00s mostly be remembered for?

One thing I wondered recently - who will be the act that will be remembered in decades to come for defining the 00s?

    - Britney for the hits and scandals?
    - Radiohead for critical acclaim and a 100% #1 album rate?
    - Eminem or Robbie Williams for their massive sales in the first half of the decade?
    - Westlife for most #1 singles?
    - Beyonce for her solo hits and the ones with DC?
    - Sugababes for most hit singles or Girls Aloud for their quality rate?
    - Justin Timberlake, Pink, Christina, Madonna, Shakira or Kylie for their ability as hit makers?
    - The Arctic Monkeys for being the first proper "Myspace sensation"?
    - Gorillaz for being the first big "animated" band?
    - Coldplay for their album chart domination?

I suspect that musically, the 00's will be remembered more for multiple genre fads than any actual acts that define a whole decade.

Since 2000, there's been the tail-end of the peak and then subsequent death of manufactured pop music; then indie, R&B, electro-pop, reality TV have all had months, if not years of dominance.

Reality TV in general spawning wave after wave of quasi-celebrity with no specific talent.

Boring "superstar producers" in R&B whom everyone wants to work with and then they just make everyone sound exactly the same.

You're of course right. Should have made it clear in the thread title that I meant artists of the 00s.

Voted Britney cause I can't imagine a 00s revival night (of which there are strangely loads currently) without her. Add her column inches domination in 06/07 and she is a perfect example of 00s celebrity culture.

I went for Coldplay simply because they've probably been the biggest and most consistent act this decade in sales terms.

Outside of music this decade will be remembered for reality TV, Big Brother especially as well as the War on Terror and all the mayhem that has gone with that. Agnetha's comment about Bin Laden and Jade Goody is pretty close to the mark.

I though this since about 2004/5... Now all we need is for him to die this year... and it will be OFFICIAL

I think it will be remembered for reality TV producing artists rather than any particular individual one.

Of those I think Will Young will probably be the most remembered because he won the first Pop Idol however I would not say the 00s would most be remembered for Will Young on his own...
