    Anita Baker

so i'm having a BIG contralto LOVE IN lately and i must say discovering ms baker has been a pleasure

thanks to mr loomer i first fell in love most notably with giving you the best that i got and then caught up in the rapture, this prompted me to hunt down the two albums that spawned these and to my surprise i discovered another song i much loved (that to funky) was an anita cover - namely been so long
the best song wasn't a single

You can't beat a bit of Anita. The "Rapture" album is one of the best R&B albums of the 80's, if not of all time. The follow-ups were less good but with dashes of brilliance on all of them.

    Anita Top 10:
    1. Body and soul
    2. No one in the world
    3. Sweet love
    4. No more tears
    5. Watch your step
    6. Wrong man
    7. Talk to me
    8. When you love someone (with James Ingram)
    9. Soul inspiration
    10. Only for a while
    And if we stay together
We'll feel the rhythm of the evening taking us up high
    Never mind the weather
We'll be dancing in the street until the morning light

I've got "Compositions", "Rhythm of love" and "My everything" if you want me to send some tracks from those.

I love a bit of Anita when I'm in the mood. Yes, it can veer towards an adult contemporary groove, but there's enough jazz and THAT VOICE to make it worth while. Rapture is her best by far, but there's certainly a fair bit of pleasure to be had from her later efforts.

did i ever mention i've become a full-fledged fan? THANKS, LOOMER BABE

i love both rapture and GYTBTIG, i'm currently exploring rhythm of love and though her sound is progressing from soul/jazz to adult contemporary i'm still enjoying it loads

i can't help thinking she nicked a bit of grace's slave to the rhythm on rhythm of love

"Rhythm of love" is prob my fave album by her. The title track, "Body and soul", "Baby", "Plenty of room", "Wrong man", "Only for a while" and "Sometimes I wonder why" are all 10/10 songs.

oh I did know that remember it now. Had just FORGOTTEN.

She's amazing isn't she. Anita passed me by completely in the 80s so I always had her down as another two-bit soul singer but looking back at her success and accomplishments (and the respect she gets in the industry) it's clear I had her completely wrong. She really was one of THE artists of the 80s.
