I don't think it's a leak as such, it's from a promo CD so it's probably going to be a single!

Doesn't sound like there's one melody on there. Amerie is so frustratingly directionless. I really like her voice (most of the time) but she's pretty much unable to combine artistry with music that is accessible or commercial.

07 Tell Me You Love Me
    10 Heard Em All
    09 Dangerous
    09 Higher
    10 Why R U?
    06 Pretty Brown
    06 More Than Love
    09 Swag Back
07 You're A Star (how Kelis is this?)
    07 Red Eye
    08 The Flowers

"Swag Back" is how you take synths and do something interesting with them. In fact this bitch knows how to take any genre and do something interesting with it.

There is absolutely nothing new or different on this album, it's just done so WELL

Swag Back is an ABSOLUTE RIP of the T.I. song Whatever U Like. Utterly shameless.

It's out. Charted at the dizzying heights of #46 in the US, which is higher than Because I Love It, albeit only because BILI wasn't actually released.

she's done FUCK ALL in the UK

it's just bizarre. On one hand she gets big producers and videos thrown at her, and yet her label cannot plug her songs to radio to save their life. Her music just isn't relevant to the scene in 2009.

Which says everything about the scene in 2009...

I'm surprised they're still letting her release albums, TO BE HONEST... pleased, but surprised.

I mean she's only had one proper hit in the US, but I guess she has a fairly good profile in her field. But still, I'd say R&B isn't quite turned on by her because she's a bit more pop than the average urban/R&B female but then again she's too urban for pop to latch onto her either which may be the reason for her consistently modest success.

Except it doesn't. Joss Stone can manage a top 10 album in spite of massive label drama and no hit single or promotion because people recognise talent, but Amerie just isn't making great music and that's what it comes down to. She clearly has no idea what direction to go in so she stretches herself thin and ends up releasing bile like Pretty Brown (a massive WTF moment).

there's obviously some reason why she's still around, because it is weird. I daresay there's a contingent of older music execs determined to bring some authenticity back to the R&B scene. Maybe they thought she would be innovator in starting a new direction for the genre in the new decade. Clearly not; maybe it was too soon for her.

Thing is, it's not like the scene is without artists "keeping it real" so to speak. Beyonce, Jay Z, Lupe Fiasco, Alicia Keys and to an extent Mary J Blige are all artists who continue to release highly successful albums without the need to go all out pop.

Maybe it's because Amerie fits somewhere in between. The label won't make her pure R&B, or pure pop, so she doesn't resonate with enough people.

    Who fucking knows.

    Oh COME ON

Both Joss and Amerie will be LUCKY if either of their new albums can limp their way to 60k US sales in the end. A top ten album (with a fair bit of promotion, if I may add [Target exclusive, a good amount of TV ads in prime time]) really means fuck all if it isn't selling.

you're using the fact that she has flopped to back up your individual opinion on the album. That track in particular is not indicative of the album, and is the least interesting song on there. On the contrary, if there is anything you can say about Amerie's music is that it has authenticity. Not all the time, but moreso than someone like Britney. I'm not saying that's the be all, because it's not, not when Britney is selling bucketloads and no-one is paying any attention to Amerie.

Joss Stone might have gone Top Ten, but she's not exactly doing well any more, let's face it.

Your post is just like me saying "the reason Sugababes can't get to #1 any more is because they're crap now". It's not the reason, that's just my opinion about them being crap, fact is they're still popular with people and there are many other obvious factors why they're not as big as they once were.

i've just put this on for the first time since the initial euphoria ran out... it feels like such a non-event, doesn't it?

the tracks are still ace, but they really need to get this woman out in the big time

her promo has been on the wendy williams show, the monique show and 106&park live... errr sorry, but no wonder she's selling dozens of copies

    First listen ratings

08 Tell Me You Love Me
    09 Heard 'Em All
    09 Dangerous
    08 Higher
    09 Why R U
    06 Pretty Brown
    06 More Than Love
    08 Swag Back
    06 You're a Star (Interlude)
    09 Red Eye
    08 The Flowers
    07 Different People
    04 Dear John

Very solid album, especially the first five tracks, there are a couple filler-ish moments but the album never really suffers because of it or has any awful moments. Honestly, I wouldn't expect an Amerie album to be so consistent/pleasant but it is a shame that it won't probably ever sell more than 100k worldwide when it's said and done.

Re:new amerie album "love and war"

I think its her best album yet. The beats are so good she uses heavy drum patterns almost hip hop type beats. Its mostly uptempo with a few slower songs more toward the end. Trey Songz and Fabulous appear on the album as well. I personally liked every track especially
    "Heard em all"
    "Pretty Brown" f. Trey Songz
    "Dangerous"
    "Swag Back"
    "More than love" F. Fabolous
    "The Flowers"
    "Why R U"
The weakest song I probably would say is Red Eye. I think its definitely worth buying
