    RECOMMENDATIONS

For the last few months, any musical investigation on my part has gone out the door. It's an unimaginative R&B/hip hop fest, 24/7 to the exclusion of everything else. Which has been enjoyable and all, but I think I want to listen to something with a bit more depth now for a change.

So, any recommendations? I am so out of touch. My iPod hasn't been updated in like 2 years. Thank God for Spotify. I am especially looking for these from the likes of Suedehead and Ameraal, as they like similar banshee-esque stuff.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

Well to be honest with you I don't have my finger on the pulse so much these days anymore - in fact I was thinking of starting a similar thread!

But one of my favourite banshees who has a record out at the moment is Sia. I am absolutely addicted to her Some People Have Real Problems album.

Thanks Suedey, I'm on it already.

I need something more melancholy to suit my mood, and I don't think Freakum Dress is really going to cut it.

I don't mind recommendations of older stuff as well btw, and perhaps this thread will not only benefit me in a selfish way but be for the greater good of this forum in general.

Dunno if you like male vocalists but whenever I'm in 'that mood', I put on some Minor Majority (Norwegian group, quite melancholic, great songs)

Thanks. Well I'm just looking for indie/alt recommendations in general, really.

Hopefully JETBOY will be along at some point.

hey I was gonna start a topic about this site, but this seems to be a good place to bring it up:

    http://www.garageband.com/

it's a GREAT website where up and coming acts, and just pretty much anyone, puts their own compositions up, from a variety of genres, for everyone to listen to and download. The site is pretty self-explanatory, so have a play round there

You asked for new music recommendations. That site is full of unsigned acts with good music for you to explore.

Are you strictly looking for alt/rock/indie acts?

Mo, if you like the more pop/indie/alternative style The Bird and the Bee are really good. They have been getting a fair amount of buzz around the internet and the album is very interesting as well.

Try some Broadcast? I bunged up some links in the dance forum.
They are more alternative though, but as they're on Warp I put it in dance.

dear mo, if you're looking for alternative/banshee stuff this is what you need:

    - fever ray - one half of the knife, debut album's a very eerie and unnerving journey through the psyche
tracks: when i grow up, if i had a heart, concrete walls

    - marina & the diamonds - up and comer, relatively radio friendly, but quirky nonetheless
tracks: obsessions, i am not a robot

    - yeah yeah yeahs - the new album's the first of theirs i've heard and from what i hear hardcore fans are disappointed, but i think it's quite enjoyable
    tracks: heads will roll, zero

    - glass candy - not too new, though they did have a mixes & oddities record some months ago, i do think you'd enjoy their blend of camp vs somber, electronic vs alternative, ker-azy hi-NRG vs deep, introverted stylee
tracks: beatific, digital versicolour, life after sundown
the best song wasn't a single

oh i forgot to mention rachael yamagata who has a nice album out - she's much tamer than your regular banshee on the surface, but affecting nonetheless
