The Killers to release cover album

The Killers plan release of all-covers album

    Jun 26, 2009, 04:37 PM | by Aly Semigran

Words seldom seem to fail the always-chatty Brandon Flowers, but now the Killers frontman is opting to put other people's in his mouth. Well, their lyrics, really.

Flowers and his fellow bandmate Ronnie Vanucci announced to NME.com that they are planning to record a covers album sometime this year. So who will boys give their synth-rock sound a tweaking to?

The duo cited The Cars, Fleet Foxes, Cyndi Lauper, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Genesis, and -- believe it -- Neil Diamond as possibilities.

Flowers, whose band is set to headline today's Hard Rock Calling in London, said of narrowing down the options of who to cover, "It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals. I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself!" What do you think of this idea, MusicMixers? Should, and can, The Killers pull of a covers album? If so, which songs and artists would you love to hear them take on?

I am doing quite well to brainwash myself into loving Day & Age. I can now enjoy 5 whole songs off it.

I'm definitely up for a covers album. I read mention of it a few months ago and dismissed it as hot aired nonsense, but the fact that my god Brandon Flowers is bringing it up again makes me think it will in fact happen.

All the covers they've done so far have gone down well with me, though i do wish they'd retire from doing Shadowplay live. It makes me die inside that I've seen them do it 3 times live, yet i've never seen Andy You're A Star.

Don't be RIDICULOUS. I know I was quiet about it at first but it was one of the best albums of '08, far better than that over-hyped Kings of Leone shiz.

(although I do quite like KOL)

Oh Pipo, I didn't realize you knew your Cyndi stuff... I could see them doing something really bold and dramatic like "I Drove All Night". Actually that would be PERFECT for them, imagine it with Brandon's vocal and topped with SYNTHS

I've only know her early material because the place I used to work 2 years ago had some Digital Satellite Radio system fomr the US and it was STUCK in the 80's station so I'm familiar with a load of old shit cause obviously they played the same songs over and over until I finally convinced the manager to change the station. He then changed it to some Hot AC pop radio or something which was a relief cause at least I could listen to some of the newer stuff because I swear you can only listen to the Ghostbuster's song and One night in Bangkok SO many times.

Yeah I was aware they did it live but still hopeful they wouldn't put it to record. The fact that the original singer is still releasing remixes, re-recordings of it to this day is bad enough.

Oh I think this will be brilliant. Covers so far have been brilliant - "Shadowplay" and "Romeo and Juliet" are awesome. I imagine it will have the right mix of cool, subversive Tom Waits/Joy Division esque tracks and camp, fun PSB/Cyndi moments. Just as a filler album, why not?

Well looks like The Killers aren't the only ones getting in on some 'cover action'

Noisettes, Pixie Lott and VV Brown are among the acts recording a cover of The Killers' All These Things That I've Done - re-titled as I've Got Soul - in aid of War Child. Using the name Young Soul Rebels and out in August, it also features N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder, Mpho, Ironik, Kid British and Chipmunk.
Potentially one of the most RIDICULOUS ideas EVER

    I GOT SOUL
    BUT I'M NOT A SOLDIER

I'm sorry but that is fucking disgusting. They may as well just go to birmingham and beat up my mum while they're at it, it couldn't make me more livid.

Those first scrags are my three least favourite chart acts of the year by quite some measure, i hope they all die or lose their voices before they can get into that studio. Oh and N-Dubz too? Fucking hell. It takes a lot to make me angry but blood is literally boiling.

Turns out an awful old uni friend who i don't like and she realised it a year or so back was there with the company filming it. If only i had been a fairweather friend to her.

Good job you weren't there then.

That setlist isn't in the right order, just as I remember the songs.

I hope you don't mean the choir seats by 'in the audience', because i will kill my mate for talking me out of getting us last minute tickets for there.

Oh i would have liked the River is Wild, since i'm not sure they did that when i saw them in the Sam's Town era. Sweet Talk is also a Sawdust favourite, not that i ever play it anymore (FUCK OFF SAWDUST).

YAY. What songs do folk want them to cover? I will have a think.

If we get a bonus christmas cd I hope it's also covers, which i'm sure it would be. I think they were planning to keep doing an original christmas single every year and then releasing an album of them all together when they had ten or so. That doesn't massively excite me yet because I've only liked (LOVED) Great Big Sled.
