what's the plan Sherlock?
I'm not risking the machines again
Last time the QUEUEs were INFINITELY LONG
I had to send my BROTHER to queue up at the GUICHET and even that took hours
And then he got STUCK trying to take his SUITCASE through the TURNSTILE and we thought he'd have to QUEUE UP ALL OVER AGAIN
Luckily I thought of a CUNNING PLAN

Paris is GLORIOUS. Much better than Pargue or dare I even say it Amsterdam... of the Euro Caps I've been too...
Amsterdam's amazing, and beautiful, but it's just SO small.
Amsterdam is ACE and one of my favourite places in the world to go, because I'm a ridiculous stoner.
But Paris just woke up the ROMANTIC IN ME.
Amsterdam really is brilliant. I love it with a PASSION, the continual stream of FUCKED UP ENGLISH TOURISTS IN FANCY DRESS notwithstanding.
I just couldn't live there though. After a weekend there you feel like you know everyone. I'd love to go back to Holland though. Probably to RETIRE.
BUMP.
We are going for 5 nights in March staying at Mama Shelter.
ALL suggestions welcome especially bar and restaurants.
I will look up some of the restaurants I did last time. I did quite a bit of food blog research and found some BEAUTS.
I think I might just start a 'monsta's holiday forum'

Chez Michel is an amazing restaurant - very near Gare du Nord so handy if you're getting into Paris at lunch or dinner time. It's SO French, right down to them being really quite rude, but the food was amazing and pretty cheap. It's always busy so I think it's best to make reservations. Have a feeling we went at lunch time as it was cheaper.
Chez Michel, 10, rue de Belzunce
My favourite place was A la Biche au Bois - proper non-fancy French bistro classics. Stupidly cheap for what you get - a four course meal was less than 30 Euros and the wine was priced cheaply too. It looks like a typical tourist shithole from the outside but it's brilliant. Again, always packed, so book ahead. Make sure you have the mashed potato. I have never left a restaurant feeling more full than when I left this place, so don't have more than a salad for lunch if you're going in the evening.
A la Biche au Bois, 45,avenue Ledru-Rollin
I'd strongly recommend going to Pierre Hermé for a box of macarons. I prefer them to Ladurée (controversial). There's also a fab place my friend took me to where the food is not that great (and that's being quite generous) but is a proper old school grand Parisian restaurant. He's on holiday at the moment, but I'll ask him when he gets back.
I had a look at the prices for a room, not too bad at all! And even the cheapest rooms look lovely.
I forgot to mention this place, www.frenchie-restaurant.com - I didn't eat there but it was recommended by loads of people. I don't think we could get a reservation on the night we had free but it looks lovely.
We went to Paris for a weekend in December and I adored it. The stretch between the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre has to be one of the most impressive public spaces i've ever seen. I don't think London has anything quite to rival it. Just MAGNIFICENT. And it was lined with all the festive stalls at the time, which was rather magical.
My boyfriend suggested we go to this place (http://www.angelina-paris.fr/en/#/home/) as apparently the hot chocolate they serve there is the stuff of legend and I have to say, even at 14 Euros for a small jug, I could absolutely understand why! Perhaps worth a trip during the day...

Hmmmm I went to Mama Shelter once on the roof top for a summer BBQ,
i was underwhelmed given the price. when you had to go to the loo, there were a few empty rooms that served as toilets. They looked 'trendy' if you like Starck...
the problem is that it is not a super well located area. it is safe enough but nothing to do.
tip : from there, bus 76 brings you right into the center - have a great trip

I've been spending a lot of time in Paris lately.
Other than the obvious things to do like hanging around the Marais, I would definitely recommend cycling everywhere. Paris is so small and far less dangerous than London that the Vélibs are a great way to get around and see the city.
FEARLESS FEMALE
very true
but i have already seen many a tourist ALMOST getting killed lol

I survived the traffic of Naples, truly the most horrifying experience ever. I'm sure I'll be ok!
Why is the Metro disliked? I love the Paris Metro. It might just be blinkered adoration because of the signposts at the entrances to stations though.
And you can generally get mobile phone reception on the Parisian Metro!
I WILL GET REAL GRIMEY. I WILL START CUTTIN' UP CLOTHES.
I have not!
Sounds similar to the new London Overground trains we have on our line - you can see right down from one end to the other, like a massive bendy bus.
RB did you ever try to make a booking with Frenchie? JESUS CHRIST. It'd be easier curing cancer.
I got my friend I was there with to make all the reservations as his French is better than mine... It was '09 I was there, so I can't really remember. Is it a nightmare to book there for MARCH!?
It's just that you can't get through! There's apparently one waiter who also answers the phones so it's always busy. I SHALL PERSIST.
Some guy I was seeing took me there 2 years ago. I'd love to go there with someone I actually like.
Reflected onto the wet pavement, can you see what I see?
Well Paris was FUCKING AMAZING.
I am completely in love with the city. Such a brilliant place. I'm still coming down from the sugar high from the hot chocolate in Angelina.
Thanks for ALL the great recommendations. Had the best meal ever in Frenchie.
Tucking into a olive oil macaron from Pierre Herme as I type![]()
