I'm sure that all the unpublished writers out there aren't at all frustrated by her "I never really wanted to be a writer" statement.

The books really are a load of tosh. I felt I had to read them just so I had, but it was like the literary equivalent of getting chicken pox - you have to have it just so you don't have to put up with it as an adult when it will feel MUCH WORSE.

Bella is one of the worst characters EVER created. Selfish, moany, self-absorbed, awful creature. If she did get turned into a vampire, I dread to think what her super power would be.

I saw this today and I appreciated it would be utterly devoid of any likability whatsoever (aside from the hot guys) and I wasn't wrong at all.

Just plain awful. I gave it a 3 because it was visually appealing at times

3rd biggest opening figure in the US, double what Twilight did

I was reading some preview report a week ago, the studio was apparently anticipating about 100M

    RIGHT?

I take it you didn't read all the books
    Spoiler: because

I finally found a leak and watched it online because I refuse point blank to pay for it and feel like I am supporting the cause (even thought I do like a lot of the actors) and I am glad I didn't. It was technically better than the first, although I thought the music was better for the first. Out of the books New Moon was the best I thought and had Smeyer not turned Jacob's character
    Spoiler: into

Also, the only reason it has taken so much money is because crazy Twihards went to see it like a gazillion times in the opening day. I know someone who saw it three times. THREE. No need. I have seen some films at the cinema more than once but only over a period of weeks and most of the time cos I had a cinema pass.

Oh and I give it a five which is mostly for the shirtless wolf pack, it would have been six but then I remember that Taylor Lautner was 16 while they were filming so it is a bit PEADO BEAR of me.

YEP, technically better than the first. It was actually quite beautifully shot in places.

The script was a big improvement but they still needed to cut a TON of cheesy lines and they didn't

the first half was also really slow.

I can't decide between a 6 and a 7, but seeing as it hardly made a big impression on me, I'm going with a 6.

The cheesey lines are all from the book! ALL OF THEM. Smeyer gets huffywhen they don't include them and makes them put them back in. I can't remember which one is was from the first film Catherine Hardwicke wanted to cut for being to cheesy and Smeyer kicked up a song and dance.

I still can't believe she has got rich on the back of glorfied fan fiction, in fact, that is an insult, I have read fan fiction better than this.

it all reminds me of the Da Vinci Code

great concept, terrible storytelling and prose. It just goes to show you can make millions from having a good idea that lends itself to live action, not necessarily being a talented writer

which is a shame but hello Western World and its emphasis entertainment over art

But like Da Vinci Code wasn't even an original concept (Holy Blood, Holy Grail?) Twilight is the same thing. It isn't even original, there have been many authors who have writen a similar storyline and much better. I don't even know why Twilight exploded, it is terrible.

Love with vampires, it hits a chord... I mean look at Buffy. I guess put it in an extremely serious emo pent up fantasy fashion and it explodes even more massively.

Buffy did this SO much better though. This whole phenomenon actually reminds me of that episode of Buffy in series 2 with the Vampire-worshipping goths who all fantasise about being bitten.

Hah, yes. Buffy had a wry sense of mocking humour towards a lot of things. This (appears) to be some humourless drama.

I didn't watch Twilight, and I haven't read the books, so my opinion is probably null and void but...

The film is fairly well done. The general dull and dark feel to the film was good, and the scene with the Vampire committee thing was very creepy.

But alas, I felt nothing but frustration with the characters. Bella is just incredibly self-absorbed and selfish - perfectly willing to do anything silly and hurt anyone if she thought it would give her a second with her beloved Edward. She did not make for a good or sympathetic heroine. And I don't think Kirsten Whatever is all that great - a very flat and unemotive performance - it was impossible to really feel for the cow.
Having now also seen the much-lauded Robert Pattinson in action for the first time, I can't say I was too impressed with him either. Another wooden plank, and I don't think he is particularly attractive either.

I think I shall be giving the books a miss.

    Daily Lautner picture

Taylor Lautner has a reported screen time of 36 minutes in New Moon and for one third of that time the hunky werewolf is shirtless, showing off his big old muscles!

I keep seeing this phrase bandied around for him, most prominently in that epic deconstruction of the books on, er, that other website.

I don't even know what it means.

I read a funny article about him being at the same set as a porn star (from freshman)
(Rumoured he is older than they officially say)

    Quite a coincidence isn't it.
