Google Chrome OS
It's their new operating system, which is FREE and looks like this

Why is it different you may ask?
Its a "cloud" os. So rather than storing everything on your PC its all online. As a result it is lightning fast. 7 seconds to boot, instant apps. Plus everything is remote, meaning you can have multiple devices access your OS.
so if you're somehow without internet your computer will basically be useless?
I think all the files are remote but the apps are local? I'm not sure. I need to do some reading up about it.
What about if you want to play a game? Or want to use a program that Google doesn't have?

Its designed for netbooks really. You're talking things with the storage capacity of pen drives and the graphics processing capability of Rolf Harris on speed.
If it tries to wade into the full OS market against MS and Apple, thats just fail. Loads have falled by the wayside trying that. However netbooks are kind of fresh and new. Making something with a small footprint that is dead fast and portable is a really good idea. Being cloud is a great spin too as it makes everything remote, meaning you don't have to keep an eye on limited local storage.
I guess it's quite handy. But I have things like Inkscape on my netbook that I couldn't do without!
