    Zombie Hollyoaks

Anyone here still watch it? I'm finding it such a CHORE right now. The cast-culling cant come soon enough.

Hollyoaks boss Paul Marquess allegedly has his sights on former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney to head up the soap's "glitzy" new family.

Marquess, who took office at the Channel 4 serial's home in Liverpool at the beginning of the year, apparently has Sweeney's casting photo pinned to the centre of his notice board with the remaining cast surrounding her.

It is believed that she will become the matriarchal figurehead of a raft of new characters expected to be announced in the coming months.

A Hollyoaks source this afternoon told DS: "Loads of people around the building have been talking about Claire's photo on Paul's wall. Everyone thinks that he's bringing her in to be the mother of a Family Affairs-style Costello clan."

They continued: "The reaction to Sheree Murphy's singing was just what the programme needed, so Paul's looking for similar soapy names to join the ranks as Hollyoaks continues on the road to recovery."

They added: "There's more than one family in the works, too - it's all go and Paul's adamant that Hollyoaks will be as strong as it ever was by the beginning of next year."

Despite rumours, a Hollyoaks spokesperson claimed that there are "no plans" for such a casting.

Since his arrival, Marquess streamlined the creative process within the production team, before culling a further 11 characters from the cast.

Earlier this week, DS exclusively revealed that Alex Carter is to reprise his role as Lee Hunter in June.

    OH DEAR

In March 2010, Paul Marquess annouced that 11 characters are to depart the show: Sasha Valentine, Lauren Valentine, Leo Valentine, Calvin Valentine, Zak Ramsey, Spencer Gray, Jake Dean, Loretta Jones, Barry "Newt" Newton, Dave Colburn, Des Townsend, Kris Fisher
In early April 2010 the cast of Hollyoaks feared that the show would get axed due to poor ratings.

RB, I love you, but Hollyoaks?

whether you're panning it or not, there's simply no discussion needed.

Hollyoaks has gone down the crapper completely.

Pretty much every character introduced over the past couple of years has been PISS-POOR. The biggest plot at the moment is some nonsense love triangle with the rubbish Ashworth brothers fighting over a complete charisma VACUUM whose most interesting action so far was to crap herself in a car, and we should care WHY?

I have turned off, and I am trying to persuade my housemates to do the same.

If it doesn't turn around MEGA FAST I'm quite sure it'll be axed this year. Shame because at one point it really was arguably the best soap on TV. I'm not talking what some consider the 'golden years' ie John Paul/Craig though - more the early part of the decade. Characters like Mandy, the original Beth, Mr Cunningham and co were so amazing. I even liked Scott Anderson.

John Paul / Craig was over-rated. I remember the internet raving over John-Paul, particularly the Digital Spy loons, but I always thought he was an utterly selfish bugger who trampled all over Hannah and Chinny Sarah to get what he wanted. I found myself avidly hoping he WOULDN'T get the happy ending he'd run over his grandmother for.

Realistically seeing as they're axing so many characters in one go, they need a big EVENT a la pub explosion to bring back the viewers, and then work on ensuring they don't bugger off again.

I still don't get why they brought back Mandy last year, only to let her go again after a few months.

Hope it picks back up after the "omg who shot Calvin" shit that's coming up.
I do love watching it but:
Newt, Ste & Rae - YAWN
Josh, Rhys & India - YAWN
Lauren, Gaz & Spencer - YAWN GET RID
    ETC..
It's hard to care with so many pointless WANKERS in it.

Okay so I watched the Who Shot Calvin week and I quite enjoyed it I mean parts are still AWFUL obviously but I'm liking the McQueens a lot (OLD NEWS that Jacqui is fabulous but new news to me) and I see Darren is still a pretty good character.

Darren is pretty much the best thing in it by a country mile - with a (dis)honourable mention to Cindy. The stuff with him and Suzanne has been great.

I thought this week has been rather dragged out and Calvin's voiceovers were beyond ridiculous. It would be nice if Theresa doing the deed meant an exit for her as she is easily the weakest Mcqueen, but I won't hold my breath.

I don't think I've watched this since Drippy Becca got stabbed and died.

I felt such a loss, I mean watching her years and years of abject misery and suffering made me feel better about myself.

Oh GOD YES Calvin's voiceovers have been HILARIOUSLY AWFUL He has to have the most emotion-free, monotone voice since Holly Barton in Emmerdale. NOT a wise choice for what was meant to be a pensive narration.

I don't have much of an opinion on Theresa at this stage. Certainly there've been much lesser actors on screen during the week - India's sister (I think?) who seems to have attended the Flirty Eyes School of Acting and graduated with a 2:2, and also Sacha's father who reminds me of something from The Lion King.

I don't like Michaela at all though and I think it's just because of that truly atrocious hair/eyebrow combo.

I've never liked Theresa, ever since she came on the scene and slept with Tony then accused him of rape or something. I just find her so abbhorent and unlikeable.

I agree Darren is the best character right now, but that's not much of a compliment.

I hope the rest of the Valentines when they're axed go out in some kind of explosion or car crash or something. Maybe Jake Dean could do us all a favour and run them over.

I can't look at him without thinking how he was supposed to be an object of LUST in Gimme Gimme Gimme. What went so terribly wrong? It says a lot when he's the least detestable Valentine.

    Lauren to die horribly plz.

Oh dear. Can't Ricky Whittle put himself away, just the once? Was that Justin Burton in there too - didn't he leave about two years ago?

BTW Scouse Stephanie with the red lipstick addiction from Over The Rainbow is coming in as a member of one of the new families.

Her acting was far and away her weakest point although let's face it, when they're still giving the McQueen's and the Valentines air time you know acting isn't exactly at the top of the casting directors priorities list.
