And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
Everything on ebay seems to be much more expensive than Amazon, I haven't really bought much on there music wise in the last year. The odd promo thing and that is about it...
I know right
I found the DISCHARGES on AUCTION (and it's hard enough to find one of those on there) and after you included postage they all went for MORE than you could buy them NEW on Amazon
So much for BARGAINS
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
I've been picking them up as they go cheap on Amazon- the new ones appear to only be £6 from the outset, though...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
I paid between £2 and £5 for them
Good old THATSENT had helpfully dropped some of them to £3.99
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
Got the rest of them and what beauties they are, I first got more of the fagg ones cause they've been the real revelation for me, I think all the real prime disco has been mined by this point alas. The Raquel Welch track is something of a Diana Dors-like triumph, had you not known that was her you'd just accept it as quality kitsch disco.
As with last time too many highlights to single out. A couple of outright duds though, Carte Blanche's dull funk and did Donna McGhee's crap "French Kiss" really justify breaching the 10 min mark, ultra tedious.
I'm waiting before the next batch is all released and will buy em together.
Full page review in this month's Q of all four new releases. Very positive piece overall referencing the BBC4 disco night with four stars for American Hot and three each for the Euro/Italo volumes. Midnight Shift is TOO GAY, NATURALLY so only got two stars.
I FINALLY got the last of the first 12, those DISCO LADIES took their time
Alas my second-hand copy of DISCO BOOGIE is missing the outer sleeve. It's lucky I'm not OCD or I would have had some kind of BREAKDOWN, but as it is I don't much care
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
Bah! the new ones are £6 everywhere now, I'm sure they were less when they were first listed
So much for CLOSING VAT LOOPHOLES
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
I've now got my AMYL AND CHAPS at the ready for 'Europa' and 'Midnight Shift'. Bit of shame that this mix of 'Earthquake' isn't the one on offer but MUMMY SAYS I CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING
I do love a bit of EARTHQUAKE
It always reminds me of the brief period we had a SELF-DESCRIBED 'SHOWBAR' here where at the end of every night the BAR STAFF would DANCE ON THE BAR to the STRAINS of EARTHQUAKE
Thankfully that place didn't LAST LONG
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
"American Hot" arrived yesterday and though it's INTERESTING, it's probably my least favourite so far. It's all a bit LAID BACK and CHILLED OUT and GROOVY for me...though TIME WILL TELL, I guess
It's been too long, it's been too long...
Mine arrived yesterday too and I know what you mean, I don't think it will turn out to be one of my favourites either. Most of the better tracks on the album fall into the tried and tested category (Claudja, Cissy etc), though I am enjoying Marilyn McLeod's I Got Love On My Mind, which seems to be quite the rarity as it isn't even on youtube. The Tony Orlando song is much better than it has the right to be too.
THIS is no AMERICAN LOVE but is loads better than AFRICA
SILVER white WINTERS that MELT into SPRING
These are a FEW of my FAVOURITE THINGS
Night Sky is the better song but Africa is quite good fun in its own way. Both are much better than Mamy Yoko, though it is more up the Voodoo Master street of ridiculousness:
I've quite changed my mind and warmed considerably to American Hot over the past couple of weeks, but Disco Exotica turned up today and it really is high on ropey filler. The second half of disc two was especially hard going.
While still somewhat hit and miss as the Italo volumes tend to be, Europa is happily proving much more enjoyable than Disco Exotica.
Pah. I'm having to resort to play as bastard amazon upped some from £5.99. I mean that's great and all for a double disc obviously, that must be helping them.Originally Posted by Donna Winter
For some reason it doesn't seem to be available in mp3 album, I might be tempted by that if it were cheaper but I can't see how! As much as I love CD quality, these just go on my iPod anyway.
I should have the new batch soon, disappointed The Dark Room was renamed to a LaDonna tune, that was great and suggests harder sleazier fare. Also they should have dug something up from Aretha's disco album instead of What a Fool Believes, as much as Re's covers are definitive, she can be a real fail with them as well.
There are just so many classics on this, I think my favourite could be Idris Muhammad which is super amaze, a summery masterpiece. Also that Johnny Mathis is fucking godlike. I tried to CHANGE her, tried to REARRANGE her. God bless Chic, I'm guessing that's by far the highlight but now I must hear the album proper.
I think they gave up with releasing electronically due to licensing issues, even the early ones that were available in mp3 form didn't have the same tracklistings as the 'proper' versions.
I agree about the Aretha track, I'm not especially fond and it feels like a bit of a waste of a spot on the album.
My Europa one thankfully popped in the mailbox Friday. "Bolero" by Fancy remains such an immensechoon, shame about the diabolical nocals (which is the case with everything by Fancy). Like the equally majestic "Colder Than Ice" he should have given it to his protégé/fuck puppet Grant Miller, who actually had a lovely voice (and decent English pronunciayshun).
First time I've heard the full 12" version of Vanessa's "Upside Down", which really ought to have been a proper international hit (like Anita Meyer's "Why Tell Me Why" by the same producers). Loving Digital Emotion's "Go Go Yellow Screen" too, and the anecdote in the booklet that it was used in a Soviet children's cartoon.

Midnight Shift is rather good all in all, though the 12 inch remix they have used for Candy Love is a bit BARE SOUNDING compared to the single and extended versions.
Meanwhile, THIS popped into my letterbox today, which I'm quite pleased with. It's on the whole rather lessand more
than any volume of Disco Discharge (Johnny Hates Jazz and Princess Stéphanie, anyone?), but there's not half some classics on there! I'm particularly pleased with the rare 12" version of Camouflage's 1989 faux-Depeche Mode continental hit "Love is a Shield", which I became obsessed with a few months ago and is probably my most-played track of the year so far

Ooo you can't say no to STÉPH. I particularly love A BIT OF FLASH
The 12" mix of "In Private" really is a thing of beauty. Just those euphoric chords in the intro could even make me well up![]()

Just took delivery of "Europa" yesterday (it's the current £4.99 choice on Amazon) and it's RATHER SPLENDID, n'est-ce-pas? Though nothing comes close to "Oh Mama" by Lili & Susie but then WHAT WOULD?
Mr Discharge himself said on Twitter last week the first batch are about to be deleted as the licenses for them expire so just a warning for anyone trying to complete their collection, they may become SLIGHTLY hard to find. I need to sit down and work out what ones I actually own as I can't believe there are now SIXTEEN volumes
It's been too long, it's been too long...
I'm quite confused by all these Disco Recharge albums we're now getting as well. Has anyone bothered with them?
I haven't yet as there's been nothing that particularly jumps out at me to be honest. The Voyage albums were what I was most interested in but then I found a Voyage album on vinyl a few months back and I didn't think it was much cop to be honest...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
I haven't yet. I may get the Change CD but at the moment they mainly seem to have been releasing stuff where I'm not really desperate for an album's worth of material and alternate mixes.
I noticed that he also said they aren't planning any more Disco Discharge releases until some more licensing sources open up, which is a shame.
I keep meaning to get ALL of these, there are SO MANY though I don't know where to start. I was thinking of getting them in chronological order. I've got a £50 Amazon voucher I got for a present a while ago so should probably use that. I've had them in my basket and the prices fluctuate WILDLY on these, a few of them are up to £12 now!![]()
I just ordered the first 4 in the series from Amazon for around £6 each - Classic Disco, Disco Ladies, Euro Disco and Gay Disco and Hi NRG. Any highlights I should look out for?
Also has someone got the Amazon Moopy link? I'll order the next lot from that.
Re: the Patrick Juvet video on page 1, I can't be the only one SHOCKED to learn that he survived past, say, 1983, can I?![]()

OMG, they're REISSUING Festival's "Disco Evita". OMG OMG OMG
For those of you unaware, this is possibly the most PHENOMENAL piece of LUDICROUS OVERBLOWN NONSENSE the disco world has EVER SEEN
It's been too long, it's been too long...
ooh, LOVELY
I've only got it on mp3 ripped from crackly old vinyl
